Just ordered a Silvio 2.0 frame

I pulled the trigger on the frame this morning. I have been collecting all the components for the last couple of weeks. I got a set of almost new Mavic Kysrium Elite wheels off ebay. I have about 5000 miles on a 650c set of them on my Bacchetta Corsa and they have been bombproof.

I got a new FSA SL-K crankset with a ceramic BB for the build. I plan to move the 52/40 Q-rings from my Corsa over to the Silvio. The rest of the components are Sram Force.

I am looking forward to putting it all together!

We are very low on Silvio 2.0

We are very low on Silvio 2.0 stock. There will soon be a two month hiatus of supply. I guess I didn't factor in the people who are upgrading.

Convinced my wife that this was going to happen so got the thumbs up a while back to get my ordered...in about 15 minutes I finally begin frame assembly. I was going to wait until I had all of my components but that is happening slower than anticipated so might as well get the frame together and get it up on the repair stand for final completion once I have everything.

John, one comment on the frameset: The holes in the titanium stays don't all align with the frame. The bolts will not go in without reaming the holes. Titanium is very hard to ream!! The front stay was fine, but both rear stays had to be reamed.

Otherwise it's all going well. I got the frame together in one evening, this evening the components go on.

Hi Noahvale,
Do you mean the two 'chainstays'? Yes, we have had some vagueness of hole positions on this run. Thanks for confirming.

Yeah, the chainstays on the back where there is no chain.

I just got back from my first ride. Like every other bike, fit is everything. I need to bring the bars back a bit and move the headrest back as well. I went ahead and put Speedplay Frog pedals on and used my Shimano SPD sandals. It took a try or two, but as soon as I got going I did ok. It does take some upper body work to keep it going straight and it took a bit to get smooth. I found that the faster I went, the smoother I rode. I immediately noticed that it is fast. I could hold 20mph with no problem. Due to needing to adjust the bars, I only did 9 miles, I looking forward to putting some real miles on. I'll put my Speedplay Zeros on and use my road shoes next time, it should fly!

Noahvale, it's interesting

Noahvale, it's interesting that you are immediately up to speed holding 20mph on your early test rides. For me, as Silvio is my first recumbent I can't yet hold this speed which I do on my DF. Not enough road practice yet. Hopefully tonight I can get a long run in.

Ivan, it does take quite a while to get your "bentlegs". I've been riding a Bacchetta high racer for four years. It took about a year before I really got fast on it, and that was because I was training to be fast. I did notice that the Silvio is using some different muscles. I felt it in my calves last night. And I immediately noticed the upper body muscles being used. There was only one slight rise in my ride yesterday and I noticed that I blasted right up it, on the Bacchetta I have to really push to get any speed on that rise. I'm really looking forward to heading to the hills 35 miles north of here.

I've pretty much got it

I've pretty much got it dialed in now, maybe just need to move the headrest back a little more. It's taking a while to get the front shifter right. It's always hard with the Q-rings. Just got back from a short ride. Hit 23.3mph on the small chainring. The big one is gonna be fun once I get it adjusted!

Really nice job,

Really nice job, noahvale,

I'm wondering if it is possible to fit a couple of clamps to the headrest tube a few inches above your tail light, hang the bags from there, pull the cushion cover over again, and that might keep the bags behind the seat?

Those bags are designed for a high racer. Very little drag. http://www.fastbacksystem.com/page14/page14.html
The weight of the water keeps them from being put higher. I'm not really happy with them on the Silvio due to the interference with the brake. I have ordered a Showers Pass Veleau: http://www.showerspass.com/about-veleau

It's a 2 liter bladder, I usually keep about 50 ounces in it. That is about 3 lbs. It's in the high 90's here and it takes a lot.

A caution to anyone using a

A caution to anyone using a FSA crank: the BB clamps on the boom to not tighten up to the BB cups, the bottom bracket will slide side to side. It took a while for me figure out why I was having so much trouble with the FD adjustment.
I put small plastic strips between the clamps and the BB cups, only about half way around and that took up the slack and it holding fine now.

Butch, I assume that even though the ring clamps did not tighten on the BB cups, the ring clamps themselves were tightened all the way, and there was no gap left in the side of the clamp? My ring clamp bolts were too long, and I could not tighten down the clamps all the way until I replaced the bolts.

At the time I just took the bolts with me to my local hardware store and bought something several mm shorter. Bolts are cheap and I figured some experimentation couldn't hurt.

FYI, it looks like the bolts that I received with the frame (the ones that were too long) are about 25mm including the head / 20mm excluding. I'm not sure how long the ones I'm using are...
