I use 150mm cranks on my S40. It's the inside of my knees that rubbed the bottle. I had the same problem with larger top tube bags on DF bikes. I actually really messed my knees up on the first day of a 1200km persisting with a TT bag. I'd tested it up to 100km before no problem but after 160km I went through hell for the last 200km of the day. If I'd have realised it was that was causing the problem at the time I'd have removed it.
I've seen some riders so bow legged they could ride with a backpack on the TT. It's just the way our bodies differ I suppose. I'm sure the boom mounts work great for some people.
