Knee pain

Knee pain.

When your knees hurt, shift down. When your chest hurts, shift up. That's unrealistically simple but better than hurting in the middle of a ride.

I find my right knee hurting (front outside) when I try too hard and wind up mashing rather than spinning. The not often spoken benefit of the Quest as a trainer is that you have to spin.

Also not mentioned in this thread, everyone is clipping-in their clipless pedals and cleated shoes, right? One cannot spin on platform pedals.

Yes I can! I can spin. Spin on platform pedals.

I can spin my pedals barefoot, if I want to;
the shoes I ride with are the lightest I own.

Why?
Why haven't I joined ranks with everyone and gone with cleated shoes and cleat-specialised pedals?
I'm old and I'm accustomed to toe clips.
The power straps are even more user-friendly than the old toe clips, so that's what I use.

Licking Paint

Seriously, paint would be nice!

But then, I'd have to reinstall the original seat, while mine gets a proper finish.

-Not gonna happen.-

You see....

I like to tinker with things; and my seat is no exception.
This year, for example, I've slotted the seat pan to accept
my tool bags' integrated Velcro straps;
changed the way that the water bottle cages mount;
lowered the entire seat by an inch;
simplified the way the rear brake cable is routed;
done away with all the metal fasteners... and so on.

Paint would get in the way!
Paint protects epoxy resin, the resin I'm using, from ultraviolet,
but I mess with the seat so much that the epoxy is being periodically
refreshed.

So.

I would like to paint my seat, but I like it so much that I use it
daily.
There's no time to paint it properly.

Then, prompted by your, "-earn a lick of paint" comment, I came up with a plan.

Make a new composite seat and use the new seat while I take my time
applying a proper finish to my original seat.

My new seat is taking shape right now.
It'll be much more reclined than my 32 degree seat:
I'm shooting for 18 degrees of recline.

You know what that means?

I'll have a convertible Sofrider.

And painted seats.

Thank you, John!
