Right after the Grunwald – Trakai – Grunwald brevet, and after a good wash, I decided to pack my Cruzbike into the EVOC bike bag. I managed to do it! It’s not all ready yet, but I hope to pay as little as possible for excess baggage (Ryanair’s bike weight limit is 20 kg). I’m excited!

I got the same type of Evoc bag, it works well. Just fill all the void spaces with bubble wrap to really pack out the case. LEL only a couple of weeks away.

I'm flying to London a bit earlier – on July 28th. My better half is planning to take me on a marathon of museums – I’m not sure what’s going to be more exhausting: LEL or that one :D

@Damien , you’re obviously very well prepared. I’ve only just managed to complete a series up to a 600k.
If we meet on the road, you’ll probably be the one catching up from behind ;-)
I’m starting at 11:00 a.m. in Writtle, rider number AC16.

This event ended up being cut short because a storm moved in on the Monday afternoon and moved north through Scotland on the Tuesday. Hope the pair of yous got home safe.

Yes, we all made it back safely, thank you Beano.

But I was super sad because we were forced to turn around halfway. I didn’t meet storm “Floris” personally, only its fringes — apparently, it even managed to overturn some trucks.

I didn’t have the Vendetta with me, but I did wear my Cruzbike jersey, and I was surprised at how many people commented on it.

I won’t write much about the event itself here, but if anyone’s interested, you can read my summary on Strava:

Because of the cancellation, I also had plenty of time for photos and videos and it took me a long time to reduce them to just over 100:

From the elevation profile, the part I was allowed to ride would have been ideal for the Vendetta and easily doable, as it was mostly very flat. On some long straight stretches, I surely would have had a lot of fun chasing DFs, since I passed most of them even on the VTX.

However, the horrible road surface over large sections of the route would have spoiled the fun. For that, I would have needed 35 mm or wider tires with 40 psi tubeless — which doesn’t work with my V20.

If everything goes well, though, it’ll be there in Paris in 2027.

And I met Damien in person which was a great pleasure.

Sorry for you and all other riders, August used to be a safe bet weather-wise in the UK but it is becoming ever more impredictable…
English roads are something indeed. Now every time I start complaining about the quality of tarmac in France or Italy, I think back about the century I rode last year in Kent and go: « meh it’s not so bad ».

Even though the event got renamed to London – Floris – London, it was still worth coming. I made it to the control point in Richmond – covering a total of 590 miles (950 km). Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see Scotland, and I think next year I’ll fly to Edinburgh and finish the missing kilometres – after all, I’ve now got a direct flight from Kraków!

It was great meeting so many like-minded, slightly crazy people. In fact, it turned out to be the biggest Cruzbike meetup in Europe :D I met @Andreas and @linh Nguyen in person – but I was the only one riding a Cruzbike. Soon I’ll make a video from the whole route, but for now I’m sharing a short clip showing what the control point in Richmond looked like.

London - Floris - London - youtube video. Enjoy watching !

Awesome video and Nessun dorma was a great way to end it! It appears you climbed fairly well compared to some of the diamond frames. Were you happy with the decision to take your S40 instead of a diamond frame on this one?
