Neon green is gloss :)
I don't like matte aswell, although I must admit that it's eaiser for maintenance on my Q45 - it's not visible straight away when the bike is dirty.

Would painting the new frame with two layers of pressure pack clear lacquer, give it a gloss finish, AND extra protection against scratches?

Will the fork still be rigid enough if the bottom of the crown (the part nearest to the tire) would be trimmed a bit
I did that ages ago. I filed a furrow in the fork crown. Lots of miles since then. I will let you know when it snaps.

I was thinking tool dip for a gloss finish and the rubberized frame might provide extra protection for me in a crash. The cool kids have been tool dipping car rims garish colors for a while now with apparent success, so why not a Cruzbike frame? It's also a reversible process, so if you get tired of garish green you can peel it off and start fresh. Just a thought ...

BTW, I won't say it's a deal killer (never say never), but matte paint is a very strong negative for me. I guess it's true that maintenance is easier with it, since it literally can't be maintained. Dirt adheres to it much more than to a smooth gloss finish, light scratches can't be rubbed out, it gets unrepairable scuffs where the paint is still intact, but the sheen is different, and finally it can stain from road goo or chain gunk. As I mentioned before, I maintain a friend's 4-5 year old Cannondale with matte paint in gray + turquoise accents. The turquoise bits have various black and yellowish stains that no chemical attack I've tried (and I've tried many) has been able to remove. I suspect that if the paint were gloss I'd just wipe them off. The paint on her 4-5 year old bike looks more weathered than the Bridgestone RB-1 I'd been riding consistently for 25+ years when I switched to a recumbent 2 years ago. I predict that in the 2030's we'll all have a good laugh when we see matte painted bikes (and BMW's!) from the '10's and '20's.

1. you guys wash your bikes? really? wow.

2. i am sure a dip will add 10lbs to the bike.

3. having wrecked every bike trike i own, i would argue that wrecking is overstated. i have never scratched a frame in a wreck. usually its pedals, mechs, brake leavers. fairings, quick releases, and of course body parts.

4. because i don't want to see any suffer, i am willing to make a sacrifice. i have an early lime green t50 that i would be willing to trade even with someone who doesn't like their matte finish q45 or s40.

1. I'm pretty meticulous about bike maintenance, including routine cleaning. This is considered deviant behavior by most folks, but I actually enjoy it. Routine tidying up of my home is an entirely different matter ...
3. When I wrote "the rubberized frame might provide extra protection for me in a crash" I meant that the Plasti-dip on the frame might protect *me*, not the frame, in a crash. Maybe bonking my cranium or other tender bits into a metal Cruzbike frame covered by a mm or two of tool dip might be less injurious than similarly contacting the uncovered metal frame? Heck, even though it's not likely to help, it's even less likely to cause harm so why not play the odds? Hmmm... Now you have me thinking about the advantages of a bubble-wrap wrap on the frame...

if you are seeking to protect your body, how about donning bike tights and a long sleeve jersey, and then have someone spray your apparel in Plas-dip? you could create your ow superhero outfit......

Ok, so the general consensus is - 650B or gtfo if I want a softer ride :)
That's ok, just need both wheelsets to have same hubs so swapping over the disc & aligning it will not be an issue. Always hated the setups where I have two wheelsets, it never is just a matter of just swapping the wheels :)

I dislike the matt paint enough its a deal breaker for me. Give me gloss.
My I sounded gruff in this post, I shouldn't have said that. I was recovering from surgery at the time and not in good spirts. No excuse though.
Anyhow I have grown to really like these colors and the matte finish.
Trying to make up my mind between a Q-45 or a S40 with 650b wheels. I'm 70 and not a racer.

S40 is the way I would go. I like the versatility and the looks of the S40 over the Q. Hope you are fully recovered from surgery!
