Any other tall riders on here that could suggest some fit ideas? My legs are so long that I feel like I am really reaching for my handlebars, but I feel like the slider is maxed out. Neck and shoulders are sore. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum and the S40.

How tall are you? I'm 6'3". Two things that helped me were changing the bars (Soma Gators in my case) and changing from the stock 17" to the 19" chainstays.

Thanks Greg. I'm 6'6", mostly leg. I actually was thinking about taking the bars of my DF to see if that would help. They are 46mm Rithchey bars. I wanted the longer chainstay from the get go but they wanted me to give it a shot without it first. Thanks for the tips.

Actually those gators look bigger than what I was gonna take off my DF. How did they help you? I see a pair on ebay for a decent price.

gators... How did they help you?
Joel, that’s what I have on my S40. I’m using it because it’s sized to accommodate mountain bike shifters & brakes. I have the same on my V20 with road brifters, so no problem with your set-up. I like that the ends flair out a bit and take grips, but I don’t think it’ll have much impact on the reach you’re looking for.

I felt like I was able to position the bars so the grips were a little closer and a little lower than with the standard bars. I also liked the fact that they were a bit flared out as @Mathew Fy mentioned.

In thinking about this a bit more @mortjr I don't think the Soma Gators are going to solve your problem. As I understand what you've written, you're long legged with a comparatively short torso and normal/short arms. Your problem is the boom is extended full length to accommodate your leg length and at that extension you can't bring the bars close enough. I don't think the Gators will bring the bars back enough to fix the problem.

There have been a ton of "what handlebar" threads both in the S40 and the V20 forums so you might peruse them if you haven't already. I also found the folks at Cruzbike to be very helpful when I was pondering which chainstay length to go with so again, if you haven't already you might reach out to them.

Good luck! The S40 is a ball to ride, but only if it fits.

You will most likely want to swap in the longer chainstay (contact CB). At 5'5", I have the opposite fit issue, and replacing the standard medium chainstay with the short one made all the difference.

You are correct except that I have long arms. My x seam is between 48 and 48.5 " but I have a short torso. Its not like my arms are straight when I am riding, I just can't seem to get them in a comfortable position. The longer I ride the more fatigued my arms get which causes me to start swerving. Other than that I've really enjoyed riding so far.

Consider that I don’t know your overall fitness nor how much you have ridden your Cruzbike etc. For me when learning to ride Cruzbike there were a bunch of muscles in the arms, back, and shoulders that became quite sore or exhausted. I have commuted by bike for about 20 years so it was attributable to the different style of riding. Not sure if that might be a contributing factor.

I have a 47.5" Xseam and long arms. I have the long chainstay, and I think that you definitely need that. Even so, it wasn't very easy finding the right position for the handlebars. Bringing them back far enough so that my thighs don't hit them means that the arms are far from extended the way I would like them to be.

I have a brand new long chainstay if you are interested. Came w my V20 when I bought it used. It measures 22” from center of the bottom to close end of BB clamp. Way too long for me.

After a bit of a delay the longer chainstay is on. Arm reach feels more natural and relaxed now. It also brought my BB up higher (probably where it is supposed to be) and that is taking some getting used to.

General rule of thumb - if it feels good it is good. Enjoy!

So like a lot of other riders I am have a hard time finding a skewer that will fit my old wheel on kurt kinetic trainer. I though I read on my many searches within this forum that you could cut one in half and insert halfs in to either side and clamp on the trainer. I tried that and it seems to be ok, not as solid as I would prefer though. I got the name of a machinist up the road, gonna see if he can just make me a longer skewer. Tired of all the idiots that I have bought skewers off of on ebay and them not being long enough.

Hey all. In general the front end on a V20, S40, or Q45 are not compatible with "wheel on" trainers - ideally you need a direct drive trainer and use the stock Cruzbike wheel skewer.

The wheel-on train will have an awkward spread when it is tightened, given the added width of our front end.
