Reading the tea leaves II

25mm tire

In the picture I have 25s on the bike. I think it could take 28s but it would be close. I don't have any 28s to try but I will measure the clearance with the 25s. I think you're wright that this bike would fill the Sivio 1.5 void, I have 2 friends that ride 1.5s , they tell me that they are not interested in the Silvio 2.0 because of the low angle. Both of them are accomplished riders in their 60s. The clearance with the 25s on the bike is 3.2mm.

HI Bob,
I'll be very curious

HI Bob,

I'll be very curious to here your opinions of Q451 vs Q559 as well (I think the 559 is over-geared - at least for where I live).

What tires do you have on both?

Cheers,
Charles

Quest on sale.

Jumping over from the performance tea leaves thread to expound on this idea in the correct place.

With the price adjustments to the Vendetta and Silvio. What I think is far more interesting thing could get lost in the shuffle.
That being the Quest on sale $1695 through June. I think that is the sweet spot for that bike; it would be nice to see that be a permanent price change.

That puts it in better alignment with what the used market is drawing. List should always be about 25% more than the best quality used and $1275 is netting great quality used; and $750 is netting "projects".

Recently we picked up 3 used Quests for the tribe and I've been fixing them up. At $1695 I'm not sure it's worth my time to find the last two bikes used. By the time I rehab them and replace worn parts I'll be out more than $1695 or darn close.

This project also gave us a chance to ride the Q451 and Q559 in comparison to the Silvio's. We are still deciding which wheel size we like better. Our initial thoughts are that the Q451 is an awesome fun little trail bike for riding with the kids. It's also small enough to get the 9 year old to fit on it. For use adults the 451 has that zippy go-kart feel good for tight cornering pull some G's; makes a nice second bike and a diversion from the Silvio especially on the paved curvy trails. I might go so far as to say for me the 451 makes a suitable alternative to a trike. Meanwhile The Q559 has a much more straight line road bike like feel. If I could have one and only one bike and I had to choose between the two it would be the 559, but when adding a Diversity of bikes were the Silvio is the road bike the 451 has an appeal that will keep it from gather dust in the garage. In the end both bikes have that; hop on and ride over for a coffee on Sunday more appeal that a race horse like the Silvio doesn't. I'm curious which way we lean after a few more miles on them.

Tires

Charles,

The 451 is a version 2 frame running stock version 2 rims with the dual drive and kenda 28-541 ( 20x 1 1/8 )
The 559 is a version 1 frame running stock version 3 rims with the dual drive and Detonator 26-559 ( 26x1.0 )

Pretty much was we got from the sources. For our area; Duranos 28-559 and 28-451 would be the correct long term tire.

The 559 does seem to be missing low end gearing. I was going investigate the capacity of the derailluer cage and alternative sprockets. The ellipticals seem different too. They are a version 2 and 3 stock ring same as the wheels. The rings are labeled different and the newer one looks more oval, but I barely had time to assemble it let alone inspect.

I posted a photo of the refurb result over at BROL. We couldn't have done that one without some help from another forum member here that supplied the components. I should note that the turbo mod previously discussed requires a version 3 frame to get the clearance you need in the fork.

I'll be adding more details in more appropriate threads as we progress we are replacing all bikes for those over 10 years old with Cruzbikes. They are all Quests because of small tires for the small riders and the simplicity of no front derailleur for the rookie riders. That is 5-6 total new bikes. Not a small project but probably interesting in the context of this thread on how to sell them.

I guess we can be the Minneapolis un-offical test ride location now.

Hi Bob,
My (limited)

Hi Bob,

My (limited) experience with stock Cruzbike tires is that replacing them can make a big difference. :)

I love your bike plan! That's just fabulous. I want pictures and videos! :D

A white Silvio V2.0 has appeared in the bike section with delivery now October 1st
?The bike specs seem the same as the Black Silvio of May.
What has caused the three months delay in shipping?
Are there any spec changes?
