Easiest (and cheapest) is to buy a used Ultegra 180 crank and tap it locally down to 150. While you want you can always just swap out the BB and crank from your 2.1. It is almost as fast as swapping out pedals.

My 2.1 will live in Ky to ride when I am there. The S30 lives in Fl for riding when I am in Fl. No bike transporting over long distances. I will cruise to EBay to look for ultegra cranks. Where would I take the cranks to get them tapped? A bike shop?

I would buy a triple or double crankset with shortened cranks by Bike Smith, as excellent work, and cheap!
If you want to go to Q rings, he is cheaper than bike shops!
AND if you send a side photo of you on the bike, he a fits the q rings for you in the correct location!

I am a bit biased as I have 4 Cruzbikes, ALL with Bike Smith (TRIPLE, THE ONLY WAY TO GO!!!) cranks and Q rings!!!

I do not really need a triple here in flat Fl. I do have Sram apex doubles shortened by Bikesmith on the 2.1 and a friends 1.0. I haven’t ridden Q rings. Are they easier on the knees?

I think so, as the dead spot is effectively 3 to 5 teeth less than the power stroke section of the ring!
I live in South Australia, the GOLDEN state of Australia, with LOTS of hills with 7% to 21% climbs!
I can only do up to 15%, as I am old at 59!!!!

A bike shop should be able to do it - but if they are small they might now - If no, then just look up a machine shop in the area - You might have to provide them with the taps (https://www.amazon.com/20-Right-Lef...d=1619955112&sprefix=pedal+tap,aps,179&sr=8-3) - it is not really that hard to do - I just did mine myself - but you do need a few tools at home: Drill press, correct sized drill bit to drill before you tap the hole, a big vise to hold the crank, a "T-Handle" - tap holder tool kind of like this one (https://www.amazon.com/OSOF-Adjusta...jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==) - just needs to be large enough to hold the 9/16" taps.

I’ve been riding 155 Rivals from Bikesmith for about 5 yrs and loved them but a couple of weeks ago the threads on the R arm completely stripped. Have new Rotors on the way but temporarily pulled the 160mm Shimano 105s and BB off an old bike but the extra 5mm is killing my knees.

As Larry said above, the bb/crank change takes about 5 minutes.

Ultegra crank arms are solid? I thought they are hollow. Will have Togo downstairs and check your old set. But they are 172.5 so maybe not enough room to shorten . . .

oh my, I certainly do not have all those tools. I find for myself, that things are easy if I know what I am doing. If I were in Ky, I would take it over to http://www.capitolbicycles.com/ but alas I am not. I am more concerned with time over cost. Q rings have been mentioned so maybe I should consider Q rings? The current set up is an 11 sp 52/36 with a 11-32 cassette. I rarely do any climbing here in SW Florida.

Right. Any of the Hollowtech cranks cannot be shortened, which is why Bikesmith uses Sram cranks. I have a pair of Sram Apex cranks, shortened to 155 by Bikesmiths that I'm not using. Let me know if you're interested.

thank you for the offer. I just did my second ride with the 165s and my knees aren’t that sore. I haven’t gone longer rides since I and still adjusting but it might be ok. How much would you want for the 155s? The Ultegra has 52-36 rings. Is the Sram a 50-34? The S30 is 11speed and the Sram Apex is 10, I think.

This thread makes me wonder...

I was able to test ride an S30 at the Philadelphia Bike Show way back when. I loved it. When I was actually able to buy a Cruzbike, the T50 fit my budget better. Like many here, I still lust after one of these rare beauties. For me, the V20 aerodynamics mixed with the rear suspension is the perfect mix of speed and comfort.

What are the chances that Cruzbike would do a limited edition run of S30s if there were enough pre-orders? If the tooling still exists, it's possible. Can we get a poll up here to gauge interest? It's just a thought.

Purchased my S30 frame set on the last day of 2016, built it up but was intimidated by the recline. So I bought a T50 as a trainer to learn the MBB format. Lowered the seat recline on the T50 to 40 degrees, and started commuting to work on it after getting comfortable riding in traffic. I probably have ridden the S30 less than 100 miles by now, and am still getting used to using the headrest.
