Silvio Pictorial History

Cruzbike has asked me to put together a pictorial history of all the Cruzbike models.
To me this includes not just a picture of each model, but the differences between the versions and what was changed from one to the next
Therefore I am reaching out to you: the tribe for some help!
....
So to get started I would like to see pictures all of your Silvio's, V1, 1.5, 2.0, 2.1, S30, S40, etc - please list the "version" with your bike too so it will help me catolog them all
If you are in the picture, better yet- but you don't have to be.
Also, if you have shots of any special areas of the bike that represent one or more of the "updates" or "mods" of that model/version, even better!
It doesn't even matter if you still own it or not either - the eventual goal here is to get some good pics of each and every version of the Vendetta lineage (and changes) since its inception
.
Note this thread is only for Silvio's- if you have any other models, please post them under those appropriate threads - there should be one for each model

Thanks in advance,

Hi Larry,

First batch, Silvio V1. Built by JT.
Silvio V1 IMG_2258.jpg

JT's Prototype Silvio- only visible difference I noted was elastomer in the rear shock wasn't covered by the rubber boot.

I owned this one until recently.
image.jpeg Silvio2 with custom handlebars and mudguards. It has the old Cruzbike underseat bag. It was the first ever 11sp Cruzbike.

image.jpeg Custom handlebars with the friction shifter. You can also see the famous heel-clip pedal. Ignore the terrible cable-routing.

image.jpeg It gets a bit cold sometimes.

First & second picture: 2018 S40 I bought from Forum marketplace. Added 50/34 SRAM Force front ring 11/32 cassette & HED carbon rims w/32mm continental 5000 tires. Installed a CaneCreek Viscoset headset this week.

Next picture: 2016 S2 that I traded another bike for. Added 50/34 SRAM Force front ring 10/32 cassette & HED carbon rims w/28 mm continental 5000 tires.

I attached an Easy Reacher rack. The last modification.

Restrap bags. The last picture I took. So they got the rack and the bags too.

This probably from around 2016 or so. The front shocks failed very quickly - and were pretty useless really. I think most people put a clamp on it.
THe bike frame and parts other than the front shock have a great lifespan - Some are still on the road now. I have seen them in the $1000-1500 range

I would agree with Larry above - likely 2015/2016 but maybe manufactured in 2014... front suspension was never a good idea and isn't on anything bur gravel/offroad upright MTB bikes... the rear is ok - the elastomer can be replaced (we have those) but that rear rack makes me cringe and it should be removed. Rear suspensions - especially like this_ are not designed to take weight like that and will just add torsional forces to the back.

The "carbon fiber" stays are actually steel with a CF overlay so they are not just carbon. They are near indestructible.

This was the "middle" Silvio that had a boom/slider combo that was not as small as the previous welded frame Silvio's but still not to the size of the later "white Silvio"and then S30 and now S40/Q45 variant front end...

Hi Larry,

2020 S40, which I believe is the first year with the thru axles. Installed is the Cruzbike carbon fiber adjustable seat, radical designs seat bag, and Origin8 Vise mechanical/hydraulic brakes.

What’s the fix for the front?
Is it also elastomer or spring like Cannondale’s HeadShok?

Photos of my Silvio 1.0 I purchased from a nearby gentleman who was aging out of biking.
I also purchased a Freerider from him which I donated to our community bike shop once I replaced it with a T50.
I once took it on an overnight camping trip (I can hear Robert gnashing his teeth up in Portland about the loaded rear rack and yes, someone did mention that my rack was swaying from side to side.)
The sticker on the seat pan says that this bike was from the first production run of 200 units in 2010 and was designed in Perth, Australia by John Tolhurst.
It also says that it holds the "worlds woman's recumbent record for 12 hour distance and 100 and 200 mile time" (was that Maria?)
Besides the El Cheapo rack I added a Ventist seat pad and a 100 mm chainstay extender that helped immensely with comfort and handling.

This was my first Cruzbike, a Silvio 2.0 I purchased new in 2013.
I had never test rode or even seen a Cruzbike before.
Since all my previous recumbents came stock with triple chainrings I ordered it with an Ultegra triple ring setup.
It took me a few months to get acclimated to this strange bike but once I did I discovered that super low gearing was not required on a Cruzbike.
As my confidence increased I got faster and faster.
After I was passed like I was standing still by Tonya Pankratz on a Vendetta at the inaugural Cruzbike Rally in Camas, WA I began to consider trading in the Silvio for a V.
I eventually did just that a few months later.

There only ever was 200 of those. I have one in my basement (the one Maria raced) and know where about half of them are in general... a classic.

Bought this Silvio 2.1 from from Robert Pankratz. Flew out to Austin (from SF) to get it. Its my first recumbent (I have several uprights) and I'm just learning to ride it. After about 40 miles on car-free roads (and a long break after some health issues), I'm just getting comfortable riding in very light traffic where here is plenty of shoulder. The pics are ripped straight from his posting. He's upgraded the bike in many areas so there is nothing for me to do but ride it.
