Yes, that looks much better than the older stock pad.

I have heard people say that the Ventisit pad is harder on clothing, but after five years and many thousands of miles of using Ventisit pads, I have yet to have any of my clothes wear out.

a ventisit pad wears in after 20,000 klm. My vendetta pads are misshapen from use. One on pelso is perfect. 7k.

Seriously though they are more abrasive than say the stock pad. But I wouldn’t use anything else. Interesting when used on bare skin back of neck say after days riding it is too abrasive. Neckrest pad was many experiments ago. Now defunct replaced with air bladder. Ahhhhhhhh comfy.

take out is to check your Lycra backside once in a while lest you embarrass the world.

Yes, indeed. When my shorts come out of the wash, I occasionally give the backside a look to see how much light can come through. There are certain things that no one needs to see.

I await the delivery of two Panaracer Gravel King tyres. They are folding bead, like the Vittoria were. They are 650B*1.5, a bit wider than the Contact. There is a lot of clearance in these forks.

In short: I am going tubeless.

I spent all day trying to fit a Gravel King tyre. Absolutely no way. I have been putting tyres on and taking tyres off for years. I never experienced anything like this. Do I need to get different rims and go back to the bike shop to get them built? I want to keep these hubs. How do I know if any other rims would work? For some reason I decided to try to mount the tyre without the tube. Success. So I looked up Gravel King and rr481 and they both claim to be tubeless compatible. I have to go for it. The alternative is different rims. I did not intend to abandon tubes. Will I have to get a machine to inflate them? Probably.

I have not gone more than 15 miles on this bike. Assuming that by some miracle I can make tubeless work, I will ride it until it gets a flat and then get a cab home. Probably will not take long for that to happen.

I think I understand now, although it is not explicitly stated. The people who want 650b are almost all gravellists and they want tubeless. The manufacturers aim for this market. I am almost always on tarmac and only occasionally off it. I just wanted some suspension and a bit of space for the mudguards. I do not fit in the categories. The road people mostly have 700c clinchers. It is like that thing Rumsfeld said. It was an unknown unknown.

I have to look for some gravel.

perhaps you might get a lighter tube in ........?

I have unsuccessfully sought narrower innertubes. Anyway, I now await the delivery of tape, valves and sealant. Will I be able to inflate them, or must I buy a machine for that?

Sometimes you just inflate them normally and they seat themselves without any help. Other times you have to work with them a bit. I was able to get a difficult one to seat by blasting a bit of CO2 in it, but as soon as it seated I switched to a regular pump to top it off. Since CO2 doesnt mix well with sealant I then deflated it quite a bit, but not so much that it unseated, then refilled it again with the regular pump.

I have good results with an air canister like this:
http://www.everydaydadventures.com/...flator-worth-the-cost-for-tubeless-bike-tires

I put the tire on the rim and remove the core from the valve stem for the best inflation blast. Then I add the sealant with a syringe, then replace the core.

BTW, if your tire is difficult to put on the rim, make sure the bead is at the low point in the middle of the rim and use a Crankbrothers tire lever.

I got a Airshot. One tyre seated itself and inflated rock-hard. It then went flat. The other one never inflated at all. I am almost ready to start looking for 700c clincher rims. I have one more idea. I damaged the beads of these tyres trying to get them on and off. Maybe that is why they do not work. I think I will try again with new tyres. Other than that there is nothing I can do.

On a lighter note, I noticed that the Stan's company is based in a place called Big Flats.

I got some more Gravel King tyres. No luck with them either. I kept trying and they would not hold air. In the end, in desperation I decided to try tubes again. I looked for more tubes and the first ones I found were narrow ones. Why could I not find them before? Success! They held air for 24 hours. So I rode it. I do not understand why I had such a problem, which just went away. My only worry is that I will eventually get a flat on the road. Will I be able to fix it? I have been looking on the internet about rims. I think I might try to find hooked rims and then sell these wheels on ebay. But everyone seems to be making hookless rims now.

You cannot improvise with tyres. You cannot drill a hole and screw something in. If they keep going flat, all you can do is keep doing the same thing again and again and hope it works.

The S40 is a slightly different shape from the Silvio. When I got the S40 I found that the headrest was miles away from my head. Now it seems I do not need a headrest. On the Silvio I had the sensation of being very closely connected to the bike, like the bike is an extension of the body. The S40 does this even more. This is because of the seat. Who needs Thor? Amazing what a difference a tiny change can make. How did those clever people in Lumberton know?

Hi Bladderhead,
I concur that going from Silvio (aluminium seat) to S40 (carbon seat- what an amazing material- stiff yet light) does make one feel more connected to the bike.

Ps. I think Cruzbike is now based around Newburyport/Boston
