Yes, OK, but maybe not as easily available where I live. And I wonder if it would fit, because with this one there's not much room to go on before it touches the crank. Anyway, I was able to tighten this one pretty well. I have a good feeling about it (wishful thinking, perhaps)

reckon it will hold. Test rides required frequently checking. Now that you have a dremel tool you will find 1001 uses for it.

So people here and elsewhere have suggested I find a stronger clamp, so I did. At first it didn't look like the crank would fit:



However, it was possible to position the clamp at an angle:



I used a piece of rubber to protect the part of the frame that is not going to be replaced:



And now the crank fits fine!

Did a 2 hour test ride this evening. The clamp seems to work wonderfully. No creaking at all, which is better than it's been for a while! And the bike is still fast and a real pleasure to ride!

Oh, by the way: As much as I would like to think that the problem was due to my immensely powerful legs, I think more realistically that the crack may at least partly be a consequence of:

• me overtightening the clamps, hoping to get rid of creaking (that problem was better solved by greasing the boom)
• me not bothering to loosen the clamps when opening the front triangle, for adjusting the boom or changing the front wheel

Of course there's bound to be an element of metal fatigue as well.

Anyway, I have learned, and will be more careful with Larry's replacement chainstay.

Yep and it’s just a quarter turn past nip tight on those external clamps on the bb shells mighty tor.

you have the new clamp position on the shell not on the old position on the bearing.

So no problem for you don.

the old clamping of the bb has been well documented as a 1/4 past nip tight torque setting

nice. I reckon 80% plus of owners don’t have a torque wrench. If you did clamp too tight then cranks would not spin easily especially on the expensive bottom brackets.

They are loops. As long as the loops are closed you are okay. The screws need to be tight enough not to spontaneously unscrew. The loops are meant to wrap around the BB, not constrict it.

Hey @Tor Hovland , I watched your 1000km brevet the other day on strava ... stunning beauty and only 19c. Not sure what part of the year that was? In Spain it's ridiculously hot. I just bought an EV that fits the Vendetta so when I have repaired myself I can go on longer trips.

Good to hear! The 1000 km was almost exactly one year ago. This weekend I did a 540 km ride on the Vendetta (Trondheim to Oslo). The temp was above 30 C at both the beginning and near the end, but in the mountains in the middle of the night it dropped to below 7 C. I had arm warmers, leg warmers, and a light jacket, but I was still shaking on the bike while descending down the valley.

Sounds like it's hot everywhere now. Even those who do the Length of Sweden right now (2100 km) have struggled with temps above 30 C in the far north! That includes fellow Cruzbiker Peter Lundgren, who I think is currently in second place.

OK, so the important bit first: I still need help!! Looks like I need a "modern" Vendetta rear derailleur hanger. I need it rather urgently too. If you have one lying around, I'll buy you a new one from Cruzbike if you would express mail me yours. I'll pay for the shipping as well, of course. I can't find it in the Cruzbike web shop, but surely they must be selling them?

So, Larry's chain stay arrived safely while we were on vacation. I picked it up a few days ago, and it does indeed look like it will fit:



Funny that both have actually been repainted. The yellow one is the one that's broken. Interestingly, they aren't actually identical (well, apart from the color), as you can see. That shouldn't matter, except for the little detail about the derailleur hanger. My old one looks like this:



The new one came without hangers, and my old ones do not seem to fit:





It looks to me that Larry's chainstay might be designed for the same kind of hanger that the current V20 uses, although I'm not sure:



So anyway, I urgently need to sort this out, and again I turn to the collective wisdom on this forum.
