Hill climbing pogo and arm extension

I get pogo at the front of my I get pogo at the front of my converted Cannondale (with HeadShok) any time I am in a lower gear than I need. I suppose the optimum response is "learning to spin better," but I also get good results by upshifting and muscling up. This works OK on shortish hills -...

    conversion rider tries silvio

Interesting idea. You could Interesting idea. You could ship it to me in Arizona for the winter, and I could ship it back to Washington in summer. I suspect it wouldn't take very many shippings before we would both be better off with a whole bike. I was only visiting in Portland :-) -Dan

    conversion rider tries silvio

Thanks to Rose City Recumbents in Portland OR, I was able to test ride a Silvio on a recent visit. I didn't stay out long enough to get completely used to the improved hand position (or the brifters I was using for the first time ever), but, oh my, the improvement of the lighter front end...

looking for riding tips with toe-clips or snap in shoes, general steering and uphill/downhill riding

notes on downhill speed The standard advice for beginners having stability issues is to take feet off the pedals and just coast until you feel comfortable again. You are probably past this stage, but the ideal for coasting is still slack knees. On my other recumbents, I used to coast like...

My Quest got stolen in Australia

pants on fire "The Cruzbike's unique design may also be helpful in preventing thieves from getting away too quickly." Gee, I've been hearing lately how Cruzbikes are no harder to learn to ride than anything else. It's a good sales pitch, but one that Every Single One of us knows is more...

    The Name your ride Thread

I never name bikes or cars or I never name bikes or cars or anything, but one of my recumbents (out of eight, and it's not the Cruzbike) has a gender. How do I know? She told me on the drive back from where we met. -Dan

    "energy-sucking handlebar-on-a-stick" ???

+1 for Steve's rocking +1 for Steve's rocking suggestion. That's the technique I adopted/invented when moving my bars down and back forced me to ride with bent arms. It should be equally effective in reducing steering flex. -Dan

    "energy-sucking handlebar-on-a-stick" ???

My conventional conversion, My conventional conversion, with wide bars mounted directly over my knees, was not only very flexy, but I could not get the quill to stay put not matter how much I tightened the bolt. It was a two-fold disaster when applying hard effort. MTB flat bars mounted...

    Conversion kit

I agree with Charles that you I agree with Charles that you will want to be very tall, but it looks like the seat pan mounting can all be ahead of the pivot. With the seat back attached with quick disconnects, this could be a very easy and compact fold. I'd love to see the result. -Dan

conversion kit trainer To rephrase Charles slightly, low price is only half the attraction of conversions. There is also their utility as low-cost trainers for all MBB Cruzbikes for the slow learners among us. As a financially-challenged person, I would never never have considered a higher-end...

    Silvio 2.1 for Sale

all the facts but no story It's a nice looking bike, and well described, but I think we're missing the story - why is an experienced Cruzbike rider selling a new top-of-the-line bike so soon? I ask because your price is near my range, I live only a day's drive from Fresno, and most of the...

    BYE-BYE PUSH-PULL

Does this sound familiar to anybody? I ride a used conversion kit, and I started out like everybody else, with my hands up high and doing push-only on the grips. Then I graduated to pulling on alternate grips under climbing or sprinting, but I have not heard anybody else describe my next...

How much may I recline my seat without having to install a headrest?

Definitely agree with Definitely agree with Charles' point number 2 - I've been there. I was fortunate that my first lowracer had a lot of adjustment to the seat. I would lower the seat slightly, listen to my neck complain, and put on a temporary home-made headrest. After a week, I could...

Y26 Progress (was My persistence in searching has borne fruit!)

handlebar probs I had the twisting bar problem with the quill-type stem (angled wedge block inside the riser) that came with the bike. Scary amounts of torque could not make it stay put. I then tried a stem made for threadless headsets (clamps to OUTSIDE of the riser) that solved it completely...

    BEST CONVERSION CANDIDATE EVER?
