Suitable donor frame?? Kirin MB 26 XR-75

It looks to me like it would be a pretty high seat pan. Maybe for somebody with long legs! Mark

    Sprinting

I had to think about my sprinting technique. I guess I'm a butt-lifter, but not clear off the seat. I think it's more putting the full leg and hips into action spinning the pedals as opposed to fully lifting my butt off the seat. I do know that I am seriously working the bars AND throwing the...

    Now for build components...

Campy wheels with Ultegra triple. I assume you know you'll need Shimano spacers to make it shift right? Speedplay road pedals did not work for me. I felt as though I was ice skating every time I put my foot down at a stop. YMMV. Mark

    Bending callipers?

I'm betting on splt cable housing, as well. Easy and cheap remedy. Look where the cable housing bends down through the TFT clamp. I bet you see cable sticking out of the housing somewhere along the run. Mark

    Just bought a Sofrider

Great report! I agree with what you say about the body getting it, but the mind interfering. I had the same experience when learning to ride. You are progressing nicely and will be up to speed in no time. You can expect to see minor improvements in technique for several months, but you will...

    Silvio or Quest?

Kim, Ordinarily, I would give you this one. However, I do have one caveat. Without going to extraordinary means, I have not been able to get the nose of the seat pan of a Sofrider to the same height as the silvio and that seems to be the difference, to me. The position on the Silvio appears...

    Mounting water bottle cages

  And I bet they work just the same as mine. Honestly, I bought mine more for looks, than anything. They come in different colors and the ones I picked are black with red highlights. They have held up just fine, hold the bottle really well and I like them. Mark

    Silvio or Quest?

Yes, you will! :D I'd have to believe that to see it.  Mark

    Silvio or Quest?

I have not ridden a Quest, but my gut feeling is; if you plan to travel and need the folding capability, get the Quest. If you have a lot of rough roads and want/need the suspension, get the Quest. For everything else, get the Silvio. Mark

    Mounting water bottle cages

The bottle cages I like are the Specialized rib cage road pro They are not carbon fiber, but still are extremely light, robust and hold the bottles securely. They are about $15, so a little pricey. I've also used the cheaper aluminum models. They all work fine. Mark

    Mounting water bottle cages

+1 for me; I find it easier to get the bottle with my left hand, but can get it with either. Mark

Congratulations! You're in for a treat, just take your time and like you said, "ride through" the learning curve. Keep us posted on your progress. Mark

    Short Cranks

I did a short crank trial on my commuter bike. It was also a compact double, so I was trying two strange things at once. Anyway, I flip flopped from 155s on a compact double to 175s on a triple crank on my good bike. After riding the short cranks all week, it would take a minute to readjust...

Recumbent Monorail - City people mover?

Nice thought, that could work. I just keep thinking that people go out of their way to make excuses: 1. Don't want to get sweaty before work 2. Have to go to the store/daycare/bar/brothel (fill in your personal afterwork destination) 3. People might see me on that thing. 4. It gets in the...

Recumbent Monorail - City people mover?

I love the idea. I think it would be great to have a transportation system such as this. However, one must keep in mind the laziness of the human animal. This will probably never see the light of day as a serious mode of transportation until every drop of oil has been used up, every bit of...

    John Tolhurst's gift to me

Riding with your kid is good stuff. My oldest (son) and I rode many thousands of miles together. We cycled in Mexico, did many centuries and a multi state self supported tour, all before his 12th birthday. If not for those thousands of miles, we would have had a tough go in the rebellious...

    Kickstand

I have to admit to dealing out some good natured teasing to people with kickstands, spoke protectors and spoke reflectors.. I know, I'm a horrible, horrible person. ;) It got to the point where I decided to take the Sofrider I am "borrowing" on a club ride and it occured to me I would hear...
