Hi, new here...looking at donor bikes, etc.

That was my biggie, as well. That's why I went the route I did and just bought a frame. It still had a few parts on it, but they all went into the garbage. I replaced the fork, too. Even with better wheels and components, my conversion is heavy. It doesn't ride heavy until you hit a climb...

Hi, new here...looking at donor bikes, etc.

To add further... In looking at that bike, I think it's a good buy-in for you on your conversion. I think you already know this, but your conversion is going to be heavy, the seat height will be a tad high and it will be nearly impossible to ride when you first get on it. The seat is...

Hi, new here...looking at donor bikes, etc.

Welcome to the forum! You're doing just exactly what I did; sipping the Koolaid just a little before drinking deeply. Looking forward to hearing how your build goes and can't wait to see the finished product! Mark

    Tubes

The one pictured had two tabs, also. The one has been cut off and filed off. Most decent forks should handle your "incredible bulk". I have about 30 more pounds of incredible bulk than you do. Mark

    Tubes

If you can stuff the old tube in there, run 'em. If it's a pain, replace 'em. That's a pretty narrow tire for a mountain bike rim, go easy and make sure they stay hooked on the bead. Mark

Silvio Review by Bryan Ball, Bentrideronline.com

Straight drops can be a little confining for your knees. A lot of us are running Origin 8 Gary's, or WTB cyclocross bars. The guys across the pond favor the On one Midge bars, which are basically the same thing only different. Mark

I've thought about doing something like that, but haven't, yet. Haven't really seen a camera that impressed me that much. Mark

    Commute to work

For the second time in just over a month, I rode through another police escapade. This one was about three or four blocks, as the crow flies, from the last one, but in a much more upscale neighborhood. There were S.W.A.T. vehicles, armored transport vehicles, unmarked black cars.... It was...

    Smitty's new toy

That's how it always starts... A six mile ride.... Next thing you know, you'll be buying clipless pedals, worrying about hydration systems, mapping out 15 mile rides, then 25, then.... Well, you get the picture. Welcome to the fold! Oh yeah, watch out for potholes, they get expensive! Mark

    Met My Match

The O2 was certainly a thing. I felt a little light headed a couple times and that was before the beers! Then, I thought I saw Jesus once, but that could have been because my heart was at the exploding threshold. Mark

    Met My Match

Today, one of our club members hosted a climbing ride up in the mountains. It was a nice day and the climbing was almost constant. The worst grind was a stretch that featured some 15-16% extended grades. I was fine, the Silvio was fine, my legs were fine, but my lungs were sucking hard core...

    Best way to stay dry...

If it's raining before I go out the door, I pack it in. If I get caught out in it, oh well. Mark

    Best way to stay dry...

No more than it rains around here, I tend not to ride when it's raining. If I get caught out in it, I just get wet. No biggie. Mark

Jus' 'cause you got a machine, don't make you no machinist..

I say it was a good first attempt. Like you say, you didn't lose any fingers, no shavings in the eye.... You is a machinist! Mark

    "Run-In" with police officer

Yesterday, on my ride home from work, I glanced in my mirror and noticed a motorcycle right behind me as I pulled up to a stop light. I looked again and noticed it was a police officer. As I stopped at the light, the officer pulled up on my right and nodded. Me: How ya doing? Officer: Good...
