    Extending the seat

That sailed clean over my head. Can't argue that fact, but if stretched taut enough and you use a quality grade cloth, this can be kept to a minimum. I think the theory being trying to keep as much of the air coming off your body from going into the wheel. In which case, anything is better...

Is there a weight limit for silvio

I weigh about 25 pounds more than you do and have had no problems. Wheels could be a limiting factor, but even then, as long as you stay away from the super low spoke-count wheels, you should be fine. The Silvio frame and fork are quite robust and well made. Mark

q-rings work great (except for shifting)

I've read that review and a few personal anecdotes from people that have used them. 'I've also read this: The Nuvinci is also a 135mm hub, which rules out anything but mountain bikes. Mark

    Extending the seat

I'd say as far as streamlining goes, you could probably craft something from Coroplast. If I was the kind to get fussy about such things, I would go with something more in line with a tailsock. You only need three points of connection; seat back and off the axles. Some nice, lightweight...

q-rings work great (except for shifting)

I just can't help but wonder what is the definition of "hardcore use"? It seems to me that could mean a lot of things. Also, doesn't sound like it will be rated for tandem use. This leads me to believe it will be a lot like the Nuvinci hub; rated more or less for cruiser bikes and not much...

q-rings work great (except for shifting)

I would imagine so, since it uses 26" wheels. I would assume they're mountain bike style hubs. You can confirm by measuring between the dropouts. They should be 135mm. Mark

Good heads up there, Robert. That would have been an expensive "oops". Mark

    Trike?

Interesting.... Like JonB said, it would sit very, very low, which in and of itself wouldn't be so bad. The issue I see right off as being a deal breaker is reaching the pedals. Because you are reaching around the fork with your legs, you would have to be extremely bow-legged, or increase the...

Impressions of the Silvio from a new guy

I figured Colorado, though I figured something more like Boulder. The prarie dogs on the bike trail were the dead giveaway. ;) Mark

Impressions of the Silvio from a new guy

You got it, just a matter of time on the bike, which exudes confidence and then translates into better handling skills. Your body know's what to do, it's just your brain that gets you into trouble! Here's where you need to get your upperbody involved. As you increase the torque to the...

    Silvio Technical Summary

Right, but it kind of takes away from being the only kid on the block with such a cool bike! Mark

    Considering new Silvio

What color I have added to my Silvio has been red and I agree, it looks really nice. I'm a blue guy, too, so that says a lot or the look. For me, wheels have to be very durable. I'm losing weight as I ride more, but I'm still a pretty large and powerful guy. As a person that likes to do his...

    Climbing Tips and Tactics

I can climb anything with the 42 on my conversion bike. It has a megarange cassette, so a 34 tooth low gear. I have to use the 30 on my Silvio, as well. I think I had stepped it up to 100 miles/week for a few weeks before I really noticed a difference. The cardio, you know? Right now, I'm...

    Damaged Silvio

As a post script to this; I want to make it clear at this point in time, I have no real intention in rebuilding Silvio 1 and riding her as is. That fork is scary, to me. What I might do is replace the fork with a regular fork and make a Silvio / conversion kit hybrid as Doug and I discussed in...

    Damaged Silvio

No, I'm not at all interested in selling. If you rode it and that fork fell apart, I'd feel horrible. Besides, who knows, I may need some spare parts someday. Thanks for asking! Mark

    Damaged Silvio

Last night, I got tired of looking at my damaged Silvio and decided to see just how extensive the damage really was. The handlebar was definitely bent, that's no biggie. I thought the handlebar mount was bent, as well, but I think now that was an optical illusion. After I pulled the TFT...
