    Cool Thing

I went on a club ride today. I was the only recumbent on the ride, of course, but apparently I made some kind of impression. One rider came alongside me and started asking all kinds of questions about my bike. After awhile, he tells me that this is the first recument that has really impressed...

    Handlebar Tape

Re: Handlebar Taoe I suck at it, but I don't mind wrapping. That guy said "leevers".  Mark

Almost Ready to Order: Can you Help w/ Spec?

I think it will work just fine. That's similar to what I had on my conversion when I first set it up. It's a little low geared for my taste as I really like to ride a 42 middle ring most of the time. I had a 48 big ring and that was too big for the kind of spinning I prefer and too little for...

    Just a taste

Nanda, I'm running a 54-42-30 on the front and a 12-25 (I think) on the rear. There were only a couple places where I would have liked another tooth, or two. The wheel slippage is more due to my tires and my weight distribution, I think. I'm pretty heavy right now, which switches the weight...

I dunno, but I think this is pretty clean. Mark

Almost Ready to Order: Can you Help w/ Spec?

That's what I would do. Those 26" wheels will roll real fine and give you a decent ride. Plus, they're strong enough to handle less that buttery smooth roads and should serve you well. I'm running Specialized Fat Boys on my conversion and have found them to be pretty decent and readily...

What tools do i need to assemble the Freerider?

If I were to guess, Jon, I would list the following. Metric allen wrenches Phillips screw driver Metric end wrenches, or adjustable wrench Optional: Cutting torch air compressor with an assortment of air tools mitre box band saw tig welder You probably won't need the optional items, but if...

    plus 45 x-seams on Silvio - yes!

John, I'm every bit of a 45 and I'm having a great time on my Silvio. What would I gain from the new widgit, a higher bottom bracket? Would that then take me out of the range of using my triple? Mark

    Pick up ride II

The knee is better, thank you. I iced it down after I got home, then wrapped it in an ace bandage. I also took some Tylenol. It feels pretty good this morning. I don't know my front to rear ratio, but I'm packing some pretty major table muscle, so I suspect I am rear heavy. Also, my tires...

    Pick up ride II

Tonight I went out with my friends on the climbing ride I spoke of. This ride is a climb and recover ride used by a lot of local racers and racer wannabees. In fact, on any given evening, you will encounter cyclists pounding up and down the hills. It's also very scenic with many multi-million...

    Muhahaha

I really cannot speak on Whipperman chains, never used them. I have used KMC chains and I just always preferred SRAM. Great chains, IMHO. Mark

    Muhahaha

Throw that chain away and go buy you a SRAM chain. You may still need the chain tool to cut it to length, but the SRAM chains come with an easy on and off link. Plus, they're great chains. FWIW, for my conversion I ended up not needing to cut the chain at all. Mark

    Muhahaha

You don't have to take the brake off, all you need to do is pull the "noodle" from it's connection bracket. See the picture: The noodle is the silver tube that the cable runs through in the upper lefthand corner of the picture. If you compress the pads against the rim, you will gain enough...

    On-One Midge Bars

Those bars look identical to the Origin 8 and I certainly echo your sentiments. Well, you need to get that helmet first, or it just won't work!  Mark

    Pick up ride

What is this "draft" you speak of?  Actually, I get a great pull and end up having to feather my brakes to keep from riding right up their rear! Mark

    Pick up ride

We did one short but fairly steep climb last night. I was able to get a pretty good run at it and barely even slowed down. Mark

    Pick up ride

Last evening (3/27) some friends of mine from the club did a spur of the moment ride. We did basically the same route we do on our Sunday morning breakfast ride, except backwards. The challenge this time was traffic, as this was during the rush hour; much heavier than a typical Sunday morning...
