    "No Pain, lots of gain!"

Good report, Harold, thanks for sharing! I like your motto idea. Mark

    Mark's Build

I've lost track of the centuries I've done, both bent and upright. In 2003, I completed the California triple crown; three double centuries in a season. The toughest one was the Eastern Sierra Double, which had something like 12,000 feet of climbing. I did these on a CF Trek 5200 with a well...

    Mark's Build

Nanda, I know you really like RANS and I've tried two or three times to get comfortable on one and could not. I went to Bent up Cycles thinking I was going to buy a Force 5 and ended up deciding between two Bachettas! What doubles have you done? The picture kind of looks like the Solvang...

    Gearing Choices

Yes and 11 pounds is a BIG consideration. I guess I'd have to play touchy-feely with one and ride one before I came to a solid conclusion. They're in Fallbrook, so maybe they'll be at the Redlands Classic expo. Mark

That's a nice collection, Nanda. I had a Vision R42 I bought in the 90's that I about rode the wheels off of and the Bachetta. I took a break in between and rode wedgie for a few years. I have a homebrew semi lowracer frame I never finished and I have several roadbike frames gathered up to...

    Calling out White Silvio

I found the Yahoo group, which the white Silvio used to be on the front page. They put something else up, now. So, it's all up to WhiteSilvio! Mark

    Gearing Choices

That would be a great donor bike for a conversion kit, if it weren't bass ackwards. I also have an irrational fear of overcomplicated, infernal geared hubs. If I can't look at it and figure out how it works without a pilots license or an engineering degree, I tend to shy away from it...

    Gearing Choices

I know that compact is all the rage right now, but I'm not sold. I did some research on this, talking to riders and mechanics and my take on the whole deal is that compact drivetrains are driven by people that want the low gearing without sacrificing the coolness factor of a double crankset...

    Hydration Solution - Hydrapak 50oz

Not that there's anything wrong with that... ;) Trust me, I used to be of the mindset to carry everything but the kitchen sink on a ride... Just in case, you know? Once, on a club ride, we came across this poor guy who had a crank that was terribly loose. Another in our crew suggested I...

    Calling out White Silvio

Yeah, I know, but he's registered on this board. I was trying to coax him into bragging about her a little. Mark

    Possible donor bike

There is a widget threadless stem adapter. It looks just like this: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=1594&subcategory_ID=5230 Mark

I owned an '05 Strada. I was torn between the Giro 26 and the Strada and ended up going Strada. It's in Ohio, now. It gave way so I could buy my Silvio! Mark

    Calling out White Silvio

I saw a picture of your bike on another site, maybe the Oz hpv site? Anyway, I, for one, would love to see more pics of the white silvio and hear all about how it is you came to have it. Mark

    Sofrider V2 Specs

Peter, If you've never ridden a FWD before, do not be surprised or disheartened if you struggle a little. These bikes are easily mastered, but rarely, if ever, the first time out. Mark

    Possible donor bike

That would probably be fine, except no suspension. John T holds firm to the notion you need at least front suspension or you get hop skip and jump in the front end. Ok, that's not the right terminology, but what it boils down to is when you hit a bump and your front wheel comes off the ground...

    Hydration Solution - Hydrapak 50oz

+1. However, if you're going to run a rack, then Brian's solution is A-1 and kudos to Brian for sorting it out! :D Mark

    Planning Ahead

It all depends on your x-seam.. I'm just a smidgen under 6', but can run a triple on my Silvio with no issues. Mark

    Planning Ahead

I look at my conversion frame and the sofrider and cannot help but think about this; What if you dropped the beam down to the right level so you could eliminate the suspension; just weld it in solid? Sell that as a frameset like the Silvio so people with any kind of mountain bike could take...

    Hydration Solution - Hydrapak 50oz

Not too bad, Brian. Not bad at all. I'm just stubbornly trying to keep from putting a rack on mine. :| Mark
