    Long distance touring

My traveling was done with my then 12 year old son and I would leave him in charge of watching the trailer. I carried a small set of panniers on the bike that contained "the kitchen". When we got to camp, I would unhitch the trailer, unload the kitchen and ride to where I needed to get...

I could get behind the hardtail, maybe, but I think you want to leave the front suspension alone. Mark

WTB Mountain Road Bars on Silvio!!

Maybe try the thumbies just above the brake hoods, though it could make it challenging to wrap the bars. Mark

WTB Mountain Road Bars on Silvio!!

If you're dead-set on running barcons on that bar, you can probably take that to even a garage machinist and open them up enough to take them. Mark Stonich has an excellent tutorial on how to do it on his site. Mark

    Origin 8 bars

I agree. I can pull myself up to a super closed position with these bars, too, another plus. Mark

I'm not Campy quite sure Campy what to tell you Campy, Nanda. I'm pretty sure Campy that something will Campy pop into your Campy head sooner Campy or later. Good Campy Luck, Mark

WTB Mountain Road Bars on Silvio!!

I thought pretty hard about going the compact route. I questioned a lot of people that I knew were running compact stuff. The impression I was left with was; for doing lots of big climbing, the compact is great, but sucks for spinning out on downhills and sprints on the flats. If you fall out...

    Origin 8 bars

I never really thought about it, but I pretty much grip the bar right below the shifters. All my controls are an easy reach from there. When I get aggressive, I belive I grab higher, with the crook of my hand in the drop. I'm able to get great leverage, but I have nothing to compare to. Jack...

    Origin 8 bars

I've got Campy Mirage shifters. Jack seems to have no troubles with the cables coming out the side of the shifters. In looking at it, I think the cables are high enough, it would be no trouble. I'm ordering the same bar for my conversion, except I'll run Paul Thumbies on it. Mark

Per Nanda's request, here are more pics of my Origin 8 bars. You can scroll up and down to compare mine to Jacks. This is the tell-tale angle, looking straight down at the pedal And coming back from the pedal up. Mark

I think it's the same bag, different size. I believe that's what Jack said; his are the large size.

    Long distance touring

Treker, Welcome to the forum! Standard mountain bike wheels should be plenty beefy for touring. I think the issues they are having with the front wheels is due to machine built wheels that need to be touched up by human hands, especially after riding for awhile. That would be my humble...

    Origin 8 bars

That's great news, thanks for the update. Perhaps the best thing about the Origin 8 is the price! You can't complain about $25! Mark

Harold, My thoughts exactly, except I will say there are a lot of bent riders waiting anxiously to see what Bryan Ball has to say about the Silvio. I wasn't willing to wait. I figured out from riding my heavy conversion that this design is HOT! Already having a roadbike with decent quality...

    Planning Ahead

Personally, I think hydration system would be my biggest concern. The radical bags like Jack has would be fine for commuting, or credit card touring. I wouldn't want them on there for an every day club ride, but that's just me. I would like to see some sort of hydration system that mounts...
