    Conversion kits coming in soon?

Hi y'all, Now that the board is back up... I've successfully completed my 700c conversion (V2/K frame, Sram i-ride front fork, velocity rims w/blade-type spokes, ultegra crank, sram 9.0 shifty bits) and am very happy with the results. The bike is much more comfortable (lower seat height), fast...

    Checking In

Heck, I have a hard time playing the banjo if I lay off for just a week...can't imagine starting up after 30yrs. More power to you though. I've been thinking about taking cello lessons and joining the local amateur symphony (banjo doesn't qualify somehow) but I got enough on my plate now w/o...

John Tolhurst brings his Vendetta to White Oak…

Jim, thanks so much for covering all this cool stuff! The Vendetta certainly looks great. I'm not enamored of the new handlebars though. It seems that Maria is spending a lot of time with her arms really outstretched (I'm sure it is comforable for her). I personally dislike that sort of riding...

Mayor's ride...Cruzbike Conversion gets lots of attention...

Saturday morning I rode in our local annual "Mayor's Ride". This is a cycling promotional ride where the Mayor and city council mount up and ride to promote cycling safety, etc. Last year it was rained out and the rescheduled ride was not well advertised but this year we had great weather and a...

    Good Cruzing

Ooops. Sorry about that...not a "road morph", that one is mounted on my Catrike. This one is (was) a "Crank Bro's Pro". It has two pistons, a "high volume" and a "high pressure". The "high volume" side gets you up to about 30-40psi and the "high pressure" side will take you up to about...

    Good Cruzing

Good report, Mark. Don't go pushing yourself too hard though! I got in a short ride myself yesterday. Only 22mi but I've essentially been off for nearly all of 2009, gained a bunch of weight and lost a lot of tone, etc. Now that things are settled down a bit, I plan on getting back into shape...

    Dynacraft PK-7 | Conversion candidate?

You can add about 2" to the top tube measurements...that will estimate the bottom of the conversion kit seat pan. Since your inseam is within a few inches of the bare top tube, I would say that this bike frame will be unsuitable for you. Even with the suspension completely collapsed, it will be...

Does the MBB invite to lower cadences?

I suspect the MBB doesn't have a lot to do with it...other than it may require a bit of training to get ones cadence up (it did for me). I have decided that it is most likely the position that drives cadence (apart from personal preference). My position on my Optima Baron is quite open (feet...

    Maria's next record attempt

241! Simply amazing, Maria. You have set quite a high standard...congratulations!!! I'm looking forward to the "official" results and the writeup. Awesome, simply awesome.

    Trek Y26 pic

I like those bars...but you gotta lose the sox. My wife threatened to saw off my feet if she caught me in sandals with sox on. I've been threatening to switch over to the Volae-type bars on my Conversion for some time. The "std" flat bar is OK but I think I would prefer a lower hand...

    Maria's next record attempt

I believe these are "walking cleats" and are probably easily removable. So, yes, I would vote for removal. I would not suggest she try any new hot-rod shoes though. It is too near the trial to break in a new set...she needs to go with familiar and comfortable. That said, Miz Maria needs to...

    Maria's next record attempt

Man, sometimes life is simply not fair. We had vacation scheduled for Myrtle Beach that weekend...now cancelled. Would have been great to stand on the side of the road and cheer!! Ah well. I'll go ride that day and cheer from the saddle...

Optimized tire pressures = improved handling

I'm riding a conversion, have about 300 miles on it (and previous iterations). Comfort is excellent, handling is excellent. I haven't had it over 35mph (56kph) and I have to stop pedalling around 30mph (40kph) as I haven't gotten my "spin" stable at the higher rpm ranges (above ~90rpm. On my...

Optimized tire pressures = improved handling

Interesting article. Thanks for posting that. I usually run tire pressures about 10psi below max...which, according to the chart is pretty close to optimum for me and my current set-up. I do much of what the article says...except I just do it by trial and error.

    Vendetta Prototype, first pic.

I must say: Thank you for posting updates to this project!! The prototype looks great. Something about the geometry (or photography) makes it look like the front wheel is larger than the rear (it isn't, but it looks that way). Wondering out loud: How's the view over the handlebars? (perhaps...

For fun: those yellow "curve ahead" signs

IIRC, those signs post "recommended safe speed" rather than a "limit". I go as fast as I can thru them...when the tires start sliding, I back off a bit.

    Aero Time Trial helmet

Not any more. Personally I don't give a hoot who this Lambie guy was. You seem to want to attack me for not being an aerodynamicist. I got other things to do.
