I found the installation video on the Evelo website, so now I get it. They do say on their website that the BB sensor is for an "alternative installation", so maybe it isn't required.

@mzweili, what is the Omni pedelec feature, and why would it be difficult to install on a CB?

I'd recommend putting clip-less pedals on as soon as possible. They really help improve control. I started with double-sided SPDs, and set the spring tension to the minimum so that I could clip out quickly and effortlessly.
