Tom, I locked mine down with a small hose clamp. Just pull the boot up and clamp the shaft.

Initial impressions of Silvio 1.0 vs 2.0

Spot on assessment. As I rid every model and every version as often as I can on different days and different terrain you are dead on point.

    I'll just hop that curb!

No suspension would have helped that situation.

    Quest Diatech aheadset replacement

Here are the parts for people who might be able to source them. For me - having to order through a supplier this can be a real hassle when things are out of stock (which is often in the US) http://problemsolversbike.com/products/micro_adjustable_headset_spacer...

    Quest Diatech aheadset replacement

I am awaiting parts for the fix/upgrade to this. The key has been finding something that has the same slim profile.

    Take-aways from Portland retreat

We are riding those pedals now and having some great experience so far. I am planning on riding them for Cycle Oregon this year and ditching the cleats entirely that week for a full blown test.

    Steering damper/stabilizer

No promises but as ratz stated I am testing the dampener that we played with for a short time at the retreat. If I think it is worthy of actual consideration I will test in on Cycle Oregon in September - but only if I think it is a viable add on that will not suddenly fail on me. One of my...

What handlebar comes with the current Silvio?

The new bar will be a near clone of the Woodchipper II bar, with a few slight changes to the width and length. I have tested it at length and it rocks. Robert

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

There is no 30mm spindle crank that works with the current chainstay that I am aware of. Don't worry peeps the ability to use any crank you could ever wish is something that we are going to fix. Best news is that the goal for that will cover most (not all) of the performance models over the past...

    Silvio 1.0 - opening bid $649.99 - Hockessin, DE

That is a decent price based on what I have seen for that version. The S30 would have it for lunch though if you are comparing straight up performance - no comparison. Don't get me wrong - I LOVE my V1 Silvio to death, but it is similar to the current one in name only.

My first ride on my Silvio S30

Main thing - don't let the front end get away from you - be in charge of that sucker with your feet, legs, and arms. Many people we see here that try the bike do a bit too much passive upper arm flopping and then they feel like the front end is out of control. Take the reigns like a boss. Your...

    Hello, recumbent noob

That is an awesome report on your progress - and it will only get better! Yes!

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

A bare V20 frame - no seat/boom/etc - just the frame is 3.7lbs. That is stupid light for a recumbent frame I don't care what material it is made out of. The rear stays of the V20 are as thin and light as you could possibly make them before you run into durability issues and/or eliminating...

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

The Boeing engineer we know has said to us before "CF is not appropriate for things like bikes and cars" due to so much notch sensitivity. I won't ride one. One that could hold my weight would be heavy as the week is long to begin with - so whats the point. Plus they are loud and have horrible...

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

Interesting. I personally know one of the head composite engineers from Boeing and he wouldn't ride a carbon fiber bike if you paid him.

    S30 Boom Adjustment

For me the measurement is more of a double check and I guesstimate by using it in conjunction with the other measurements - it isn't a measurement that I use to set something to that exact measurement. When I do a build the measurements for me are all "as close as possible" since I cannot have...

Boom ... was that an S30 that just passed you?

It is about 1" lower. All other things being equal (same tires, etc.) Robert

    Upgrade fork/chainstay for older Vendetta

NICE! I am pleased this worked. Note to everyone out there - we don't have a zillion of these around so they will be reserved for keeping broken or wildly ill-fit bikes on the road - as opposed to just offering up new stuff to cure upgrade-itis. That is until I have more around to offer. Robert

    SRAM brifters, rear D, etc...

There are good pieces of advice above. I have built more Cruzbikes than I can count with everything under the sun and the GX is great. 10 speed is flawless, 11 speed - MEH in my opinion but I tent to remain old school until the next big thing is not the next big thing. I steer clear of Shimano...
