Larry, do you stash bottles at those mile marks or do you have a support crew, aka wife, kid, sponsored team van? I’m going to be a solo act on the century so am working under the assumption that I’m carrying all my fluid and food for the full ride. As this is my maiden Sebring I’m happy to have any recommendations/pointers. And while we’re at it, what is everyone’s powder/tablet/drink of choice for in ride hydration.

There will be many other riders with support at those 3 locations (myself included). On Friday when we all meet up - find someone with support and ask them to help and work out how to do it. ie. how you will recognize each other, how to handoff, or will you stop, etc. Plan to meet up at a specific time and place on Sat morning to hand-off your bottles.
I like Infinit during a Century

Thnaks larry. I think I have a better idea for a start to my game plan. I can carry up to 7 24 oz bottles at one time with my current setup so I should be fine with 4 bottles for the century and then re supply the on the first 1o mile loop and reduce my bottle count to two to reduce weight. I am glad to hear that the route is flat. I hate hills. I plan to stay with the century group as well. Hopefully they will be going fast enough for me to get my first ever sub 4. closest I have been is 4:07. I agree with your strategy of always trying to ride with at least one other rider to take advantage of the draft.

I am looking forward to this race and just put in my vacation request (approved) so that is one more item complete. we will be arriving in Florida early and going to Disney earlier that week. We are staying in Orlando Monday to Friday, camping at the track Friday and Saturday nights and then headed over to Daytona Beach for a few nights before we head back to the what I am hoping will be a snowy Indiana. If nothing else I can look forward to not spending hours on the trainer come the beginning of February.

+1 on the use of Infinate. I used it to get across the state two years ago, 7 hours on just fluids, and most of the way last year. I got the single packets from a local bike shop to make sure I could stomach it and could stand the taste. worked well enough I have a big bag and am going to reorder some more to use in Florida because I am going to run out with these long training days on the weekends.

With this plan of yours to stay with the lead Century group - If you do go for it and really hang in there and are gassed as the end. You can take a short break to rest up, refuel, etc, and then hook up with a group on the 10 mile loop. What is really good about the "pit area" is that it is about 1/2 mile long, then turnaround the timing gate and back out 1/2 mile then to the loop again. If you setup near the entrance to that 1/2 stretch, you can see a group that is coming and together that you want to get with. You will have a good 2+ minutes to get ready for them to come past you on the way back out. With your awesome sprinting abilities you should not have any trouble bridging a gap to them. This is going to be pretty fun. I am pretty sure Kyle and Jesse are in the 100 - so hoping it will be decently fast to get a great avg for the 1st 100.

Don’t think I’ll be hanging w you studs. Hoping for a 20mph ave for the century given the shape I’m I right now. I’m guessing there will be a few other mortals on course for me to work with. I’ll be on Longboat Key in the Sarasota area for the week before. Can I cram 2 months of training into 1 week? Seems winter will arrive in KY this weekend w trainer weather thereafter. Zwift, Zwaft. Trainer riding is almost as bad as golf! 64 days til spring!

Well, in the spirit of supporting the Tribe, international reinforcement :emoji_flag_ca: is on the way. Yes I managed to sign up for the Century just inside of the deadline. No way will I be setting any speed records (20 mph average? -giggle) and I’ve never done anything like this before. At this stage the simple goal is to finish and kick it harder than it kicks me. Aiming to be on a V20 but it in a pinch could be an S40- stay tuned.

Great news a great to have you!- FYI - You only had to sign up for the Battle of the Brands by the 15th. You can pretty much register at Sebring anytime you want. Just more in person. Don't worry about the speed. There will no doubt be a large group to draft with for a 5-hr Century Goal. For the Century there is really no time limit, except maybe 9 hours. As long as you finish you will get credit for the official Sebring Century milage it will be credited towards Crubike's total. Where the speed and ultimately distance matters is in the 12-hour race where actual miles in the time limit counts. The more the better for Cruzbike in the final Tally . Look forward to meeting you.

Looking forward to seeing you again Larry... feels like ages since Kentucky! :D
Same here - At least a year and 10,000 s(miles) ago! - Oh yeah, and one cannot forget the $5k transmission rebuild after I got home

Say what now? I dont know the original point of sale of my vendetta maybe I should dig into that and see if it was originally sold by John. Just kidding. I would not jump ship like that.

Also I saw the deadline for signing up has been extended to the 31st for all you on the fence. Any way we could get a tally or riders other than the total of 40?Screenshot_20200121-143300_Facebook.jpg

Bike shipped w Bikeflights and on its way to FL for Bike Sebring. It should arrive in Sarasota Thursday for me to pick up Friday. That will give me a week to put in 4,000 miles to get in shape. Hoping for a 20mph tailwind on the entire out and back century course. Anybody see any holes in that training and race day plan?

Holy er holey cheese er.. plan is good. Especially better than no cheese er plan.
-dairyly yours,,,
Did you know that modern water bottles replaced the ancient and honourable tradition of replenishing fluid using wine bottles? Don’t miss that hand off!

I’m with you on the tailwind both out and back on the century @paco1961, but I’m only going to do 1,400 miles the week before Sebring (driving there that is)

Any body got any stats on how many people are signed up on the different sides - Maria, Lucia? - or is that a closely guarded secret?
