New V20 build components

Chicorider, I had mine low on the bar at first, but it kept getting knocked around. It was probably the least aero position there and cluttered up the view so I moved it up to where yours is now and it was much better. For giggles I wrapped the band around the right brake hood and that is where mine now sits. My right thumb slightly touches it when in the natural hand position and took a little time to get used to the feel of using the brakes on that side. I'd say about 1/3 or maybe even 40% of the mirror is just behind the hood so it is at least more aero than it was down on the flat part. I do have to say though, on a V20 10% of the time I need it to check for traffic and 90% is just to see the rider I passed fade off into the distance. When I start going after KOMs on the V20 I will remove it.

Here's the latest:

I've added 20mm road handlebar extensions to the stock bars to get a lower hand position with the stock chain stays. Much better.

I added a auto seat aftermarket neck pillow to get my head in a more comfortable position. Much better.

I swapped the radial laced non-drive wheel for a 3x laced one. Much better.
Could you please post a picture? I am curious about the auto neck pillow setup.

Nice color there braddah. I hear from a very reliable source that gel works. "The guy" told me that the grips slipped on very easily, and since the tube was rounded a little they popped right back off just as easily. "He" said that after finding a way to keep the grips on the bar until the gel dried resulted in grips that are really snug and don't rotate or come off no matter how strongly you apply pressure with your hands.

@Frito Bandito

apologies in advance for all who need to be apologized to. i just couldn't help myself.

LMAO

lets all read that out loud completely out of context in singular: I hear from a very reliable source that sex gel works. "He" said that after finding a way to keep it on until the gel dried it resulted in it being really snug and didn't rotate or come off no matter how strongly you twist, pull or tug.

These guys say to use Isopropyl Alcohol
They have a lot of colors in foam and tape
The advantage of hair spray is that it's slippery when wet, but sticky when dry, so the grips don't move. You need to get them in place before it dries, because once it does, you need to cut them off.

I couldn't find fluorescent yellow from ESI.

If you have the new fluorescent yellow V20 and are looking for matching grips, Amazon just got restocked:

Here's an old pic that shows the color match better:

These are sized for MTB bars, so use lots of hairspray and elbow grease to get them on the slightly larger road bar diameter (but then they won't slip).
How's bike control with the bars that far forward?
My V20 was also my first MBB, so I didn't know a lot about setup. I initially had the bars pretty far forward but as I moved them back I found that adding some tiller increased stability and decreased pedal steer.
My normal riding position has my hands in the drops and elbows tucked in at my sides. The "power position" for hard sprints or long hills ( or hard sprints up short hills, or whatever...) is up on the drops, fingers wrapped around the front and pulling back hard.
Not suggesting that either of us are right or wrong, I just like to hear about other people's experience.

That's an old pic. I have the bars set so my elbows are just slightly bent. This gives me just enough stomach clearance to sit up. I switched to the Surly 48cm Truck Stop bar to get a 30mm rise for extra clearance from the bar "stem" clamp screws. More recent pics here:

I set the bar up similar to my X/C road bike setup, which has the Salsa Cowbell flared drops, with grips on the bar ends for all day riding comfort.

I think you meant you went from 11x24t to 11x32t? Do you ever need the 11t cog? I don't see any use for a 10t cog, that's why I think 12 speed is not useful (frankly I was considering kit-bashing a 14-25 with a 11-34 to get a 14-34). I don't want to increase chainline loss by reducing chainring sizes. That might make sense for weight weenies on a featherlight carbon bike, but not for ultra.

I'm thinking I should go disc brake because I'm a big boy, and plan to also do bikepacking on the V20. Or possibly just a disc up front.

260 watts and you’re into 11t 1% - fast bike. 1/3 easier at speed than roadie

Yeah, but I wouldn't be doing 260W for any length of time. So I would sacrifice top speed for endurance.

not on the trans am for sure. Maybe tt the last 60 klm. . The endurance comfort speed will be up anyhow. 34 -36 klm/hr do able under right conditions .
