Thor Easy GS Medium mount to S40

True. Good point. Whatever it is, it works. :)
Now that I more clearly see how thing mount, I have to decide between using the plastic mold or a sorbothane isolator. I ordered the sorbothane, as I could use some vibration damping. But if that doesn't work well, I'll give the plastic mold a try. Seems the plastic would help make the seat a stable fit, even though the seat is not really designed specifically for the S40. Thanks for your help with this.

I have had my Thor seat sitting next to my S40 for a month as I have debated how to trim the front wings to fit. It is stressful.

This is also a good thread to inquire for something I have seen. @Robert Holler on the new S40 images, there is a small black bracket going under the frame at the bolt points for the upper part of the seat. I suspect the bolts are secured into this piece and the tightened down. Can we order this piece? Is there a similar piece for the lower part of the frame?

This would probably interfere with fitting a Thor seat.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what it is, I actually think it'd make it easier.

It appears to me that rather than have metal tabs welded to the frame as attachment points that the new ones have a metal or plastic clamp that goes around the frame. Drill two holes into the Thor seat of the correct width, thread them into that clamp, done.

I just mounted a Thor seat to my Vendetta last week.
As you indicated, there wasn't mounting wings in the rear and I did have to cut the front ones down some and drill new holes in them.
Like others did on this forum, I used the moldable plastic to mount my seat...
I not only used it in the front, but the middle and the rear...
I drilled holes in the seat where the Perez Clamp bolts are located, so I could just use a couple slightly longer (and stainless) bolts to hold the top part of the seat down...
I'm not using the stock headrest. I mounted an Ice neckrest (from a trike). Works very well and mounted to the seat itself.

The Moldable plastic works very well and is reusable, so if it's not right the 1st time, heat it back up and use it again...

Blessings,
Rudy

@DocS as this topic comes up often, any chance you have some photos showing off your work? I'm curious how much you took off the lower wings as it sounds like you were still able to use the existing holes.

I took about 1/4 off each side of the wings. I had to drill new holes. There was plenty of room left for the new holes.

Again, this was on a Vendetta, not an S40.
My V2.0 (the older yellow model) didn't have wings at the top.

I'll try to remember to get pics...

Thanks Rudy. I bought some moldable plastic but I'm going to give sorbothane spacers a try first. If that's too squishy/wobbly, I'll replace them with the plastic blobs.

Update: I mounted the seat with the sorbothane spacers. Seems solid.

Awesome. Did you get any pictures of the process?
Not too many shots. Just the placement of the sorbothane pads on the frame and seat. I cut off the back tabs and drilled new holes on all the tabs closer to the frame. Bit of a pain due to the welds. Had to open up the holes so the screws could move away from the frame enough for the lock washers and lock nuts. I tightened down the screws until the sorbothane started to bulge. The seat seems quite secure. Solid.

I too, have looked into this. Somewhere I have seen where the seat tabs up by the shoulder were filed down, to where the Thor seat would fit, as opposed to cutting the tabs off. I am also looking at the Easy GS Thor seat (when I get the cash) and am looking at filing down the tabs on my S40 (orange, too!), rather than cutting them. From the pics, it does not look like there would be much filing to do. I would also use the plastic pellet trick to stabilize the seat and give it a good mounting surface.

On the back of the seat, you would have to file into the tab hole. I decided to cut the tabs to eliminate the entire hole as I would need to drill new holes anyway. Didn't cut the front tabs as the spacers are tall enough so the tabs don't interfere with the seat ribs. I did need to drill new holes in the front tabs so that the spacers don't interfere with the ribs. I haven't taken it for a test drive yet as it's in the bike shop with front derailleur and disk brake problems.

How's your Sorbothane pad configuration working out?[/QUOTE]
Unfortunately, when I put the seat on, the bike needed work done on the disk brakes and front derailleur. It's still at the LBS. All the bikes shops in Austin have a really long lead time before they will even look at your bike. Then once you drop it off, they take weeks to do the work. It's madding. I've been riding my V20, but I really want to get back on the S40.

Austin? You're in Austin Texas?
I'm just down the road in San Antonio!

We have a great Cruzbike dealer here... Joe is the Owner and mechanic at Pedal Guerrero. He's got a very quick turn around time and is very familiar with Recumbent bikes and trikes, but best of all... Cruzbikes!

Blessings,
Rudy

Thanks for the suggestion but 100 miles is a bit too far for me to get my bike repaired. Too bad there isn't a dealer in Austin. I've run into bike shops that won't work on recumbents. Can't figure out how to hold them in their work stands. I don't have any issues that are CruzBike related. My Shimano mechanical disk brakes are constantly going out of adjustment. I need to adjust them every 200-300 miles. I do more miles than that each week. Also, the DI2 software went out of wack and my front derailleur won't move to the big gear. I purchased the bike and the previous owner set a password for the bluetooth access with a mobile device. You can override it with the app on a windows PC but I don't own one. So I needed the shop to override the password and fix the brakes. They don't accept phone calls so you either visit the shop or send an email. They haven't replied to my emails in over a week. Frustrating. May give them a visit today.

Happy Days,
Bill

Well, hopefully we can meet up for a ride sometime! I ride with another Vendetta rider occasionally in the San Antonio / New Braunfels area.
