What I did to prepare for Sebring 2017 ---today

Hi David
Sorry for the frustration.
When I see those bars I think of how trick and fast they are on a DF. When I think of how they are installed on a V, that some of the aero is lost because the bars need to point up. I hope that something like in the video doesn't happen. :)

Well when I am going fast the levers will be down. Perhaps I need flared levers!

I'm singing the blues this morning. Last night I swapped over from a 9 spd components to 11 spd. Everything went well until I began to adjust the derailleur. I fussed with it for 15 minutes, to no avail. It will not consistently shift one gear at a time. 1,1,2,1,1,2,1,1,1. I think I have fallen in to the snag of road cassette and MTB shifter. I just can't understand the genius behind 2 different 11spd platforms. Especially from the same manufacturer.
This is not terrible. I still have 9 gears.

I think shimano needs to make a kit that will convert from MTB shifter to road. It would consist of making the part that pulls the cable, slightly smaller. That would make the travel slightly less. Maybe they already do. Maybe after Sebring I will consider some sort of change.

Last night I weighed my bike with gear and 2 water bottles. What a tank. 35lbs. I need to change it's diet.

Try one of the converting pullies like this one by jtech:

Yeah only SRAM "was" mix and match and now you have to be careful there is a post on the forum somewhere the details what works.
Shimano is a no go

Matt's correct only Shimano solution, but they ship fast;

In thought; expanding the paradigm of traversity
Well my bike has just arrived at Orlando. I am here now but there isn't anyone in the office so I have to wait for a few moments. One of my upgrades is to switch out the Shimano Ultegra 11:25 cassette and put on the Shimano Dura Ace 11:28 cassette. It's quite a little bit lighter and supposedly compatible with the Ultegra crank.

It's going to be hot at Sebring.

All... Start thinking about hydration

You might be perfect on your trainer but if you get your hydration wrong things get tougher.

I have a halo device that I haven't tried yet. The last thing I want is to stop to wash out the salt from my eyes.

It'll change but the forecast for Saturday is low of 45F high of 70F; but the windows are projected to be quite a bit at 10-15mph. If the winds stay that high 65-70F is going to feel cold. Depends if that front moves through on Thursday as forcasted.

Friay and saturday are of course the only two days proect to be below 78F

Heck... It changes all the time. The other day it said rain and early this morning I am sure the max was 25c.

Let's just keep on eye on this as it seems very variable

If the Jtek pulley is the answer, I don't think I understand the problem. Or possibly how the pulley is used.

I think this is the problem.
Quoted from Ratz post.
"The heart of the matter is cable pull.
Exact Actuation (Road 10 & 11sp, Mtn 10sp) is 3.1mm
X Actuation (Mtn 11sp) is 3.48mm "

My Mtn trigger shifter is moving the cable too far. I assume 3.48mm because it wants to jump 2 gears occasionally. Also it shifts into the 1st cog when the shifter is in 2nd. (this is when everything is aligned correctly in high gear) The shifter expects the derailleur to travel further. It should be 3.1
I'm also assuming that the shifter is for a mtn bike. It doesn't say mtn on it.

When I looked at the Jtek pulley page I didn't see the combination of components that I have. I'm not convinced it will apply.
Shimano XT rapid fire shifter, Shimano 105 deore derailleur, and Shimano 11 cassette.
They were mixing manufactures.

The Shiftmate 8 and 8A list compatibility for Shimano 11 speed MTN shifter -> Shimano 11 speed road derailleur -> Shimano 11 speed cassette.
Here's a post describing how the two-size-diameter pulley either reduces (or increases) the cable travel depending on the orientation.

May buy a 8A after Sebring. Not enough time prior. Considered making on but don't have the time either. I had 9 spds before. It wasn't that bad.:)

Wow look at that.:cruzbike:

Time to go ride. I feel like the guy making the doughnuts. "Time to make the doughnuts" over and over again.

Let the piling, reducing and packing begin. Finished the last 4.25 hour training ride today; after 12 days of no rest; yep I'm cooked. Bring on the super compensation that goes with taper week and 2 days in the car. Having to plan for people to travel right before the race really puts everyone through the ringer the 2nd to last week.

No flo wheels; didn't get here in time; so 60xdisc is the order of the day and sanity has won out; we'll be running our tried and trusted pro ones; nothing we on race day.

Weather forcast has turned in our favor with less wind and warmer temps; hopefully it will continue to trend that way.

I'm sure better weather will be more comfortable, but wouldn't more wind be an advantage for CBikers given better overall aero?

So no Vittorias for this race? did you get cold feet after handling them for a bit are did you have mounting troubles like me?
