Zwift - Cruzbike Activities (races and group rides)

Hard to believe the PBP is less than two years away and in less than a month the upcoming brevets have an impact on PBP registration. So today we decide to skip the Zwifting and establish a randonneur bar of fitness. How would our almost exclusive Zwift rides and races fare for the "readyment" of the Grand Brevet? Can basically short distance rides of 1 hour Zwift do the trick? Today we hit the real road for an 85 mile jaunt at cruising speeds as a test marker. How did it go? Yes and no. No problem condition wise but I believe this was the most uncomfortable I have ever been on a recumbent. Return of the ancient neck discomfort along with a few more body pains that I can't recall having. Why, one might ask. I don't know but my first thought is lack of saddle time. My actual time on the bike seat is hugely less than any year in the last ten years. The good news is randonneuring has moved to the forefront of the Team Moose agenda.
Out of curiosity what is the PBP event you mention?

Paris - Brest - Paris. It is the / a rondoneering event of 1200km within 90 hours. You must qualify for the event in the year leading up to it by completing several long rondo events; 200km, 300km, 400km and 600km I believe. Each one has their own time limit. And yes, you must fit your eating and sleeping in that time.

All Zwift riders must read.
!!Warning!!
Zwift is not as safe as one might think. Last night an incident happened that makes me think twice about riding without an helmet while Zwifting.
I was in a group workout. This means that all 20 of us are doing different levels of wattage, based on the workout, though we stay together as a group. Seems safe enough. We climbed to the top of the volcano. Shortly after the group began our descent down the volcano. I found myself free falling for a second, tumbling through the air. The next thing I know, I'm inside the volcano riding on the path. When I looked at the map in the upper right. I could see my location and the group on two different roads and riding different directions. Miraculously I was not injured and my bike was not damaged. Those 404 wheels are really durable. I was able to complete the workout. I attribute missing this close call to clean living.
I now recommend anyone zwifting to wear a helmet. Hopefully they have a high quality helmet to provide the greatest level of safety for your digital self. I think you get to best helmet when you reach level 18.

Sunday AM (US time Zones) there is a fondo on Zwift. The shorter one, Bambino, starts at 10AM ET and completes one lap on the three sisters route. If you want to try a large group ride that is not a training ride and also not a race, drop in and give it a try! Hopefully I’ll see one of you out there!

I rode in the fondo this morning. The last part of the climb up to the radio tower is brutal; ugh. I made it to the volcano, about 20 miles in, after 2 hours. My hammies were complaining and I needed to do a few family things. I estimate I needed another 45 minutes to do the volcano climb and finish. I still had a great ride and went further, faster than the last time I tried a fondo.

Keep riding Josh! I'm 750 miles away from my neo or I would have joined you. I'm off the track until I get home.

We will keep the Zwift lights on for you. Not sure when you are getting back. I’ll just on Tues evening for some spinning. My fallback is to go through FTP training unless I find an interesting event.

Not good. My internet connection failed in the 16th mile. My power wasn't very good, but I continued to the end. After I got my internet connection back, Zwift only recorded the first part of the race in my activities list even though I did the whole thing, and none of it uploaded to Strava. But hey, at least I got a good workout.

Sure your internet connection failed, my connect fails every time I blow up and get dropped from the lead group as well

Have a good workout helps. I’ve also seen some weird network issues with Zwift on populated rides; lag, names don’t appear, etc. depending on how you diagnosed the problem, it could have been their end as well.

browsed through a bit of the zwift pro championship races that I guess were help inside some velodrome somewhere and noted a few things.

1. Everyone was on a DF bike but was surprised to see one of the best riders on his TT bike which can be a little awkward for needed leverage for a sprint finish.
2. The W/Kg values were a solid 1w/kg higher then what I can race at with my 4.3w/kg FTP. I know I can't hand with these guys but to see them on in a single race together is even more humbling.
3. When I do race on zwift I actually do regularly race against one of the racers who won one of the final stages but I have to admit I've never been close to beating him and he always controls the pace.
4. @trplay if I ever get my FTP over 5.0 I'll sign up for one of these events on the vendetta just to witness the faces of everyone who walks into the velodrome and thinks "WTF if that thing over there?" That alone would be worth the trip and getting my ass handed to me.

You race enough and you know when the other guy is toying with you, but if not for him I have one less person to chase. Only time I really hate racing Casey or that Beck guy are during the 100k events because they must get bored of toying with us and they just set into a pace and drop guys like me 20k in. Maybe I'll get my life and living situation sorted soon and I can start zwift racing at lunch to replace my old noon rides.

I thought he was east coast with severally of the other fast USA zwifters. That one Vegan guy is not far from me.

Haven't done much "racing" on Zwift and have been trying to get on there more, but find it easier to just hop on the trainer and blast music and ride as opposed to going through the log-in and setting a ride hassle. Maybe I am over thinking the Zwift thing and I should just ride around in there some?

Log on, select mountain route and start pedaling just like real life. Once you get warmed up and into the climb look around for riders to ride with catch up to or even keep from catching you. So many times I've made random single ride mountain friend you'd swear I had planned to ride with before I logged in.
