power assist is definately a reasonable subclass

Hi Bill, you been holding out on us - that looks like a blast to ride! Now what are you trying to do with the steering tube? A little more info? And which motor hub is that? Best, Doug

    New Sofrider

Hey guys, Thanks for sharing your experiences with the new Sofrider. One thing your legs may be adapting to is the shorter crank length of the Sofrider vs. most conventional bikes. Our shorter cranks (160mm on the Sofrider, 155mm on the Quest) shift the balance between crank torque and pedal...

power assist is definately a reasonable subclass

Hi Buyagain, Aren't we just one big happy family? :D I have given some thought to Cruzbike market segmentation, and I fit into your third category, within subcategory "tinkerer". I probably don't have time for it, but I am compelled to do it anyway (hobbies are what we do the other stuff to...

    My 700c' wheels conversion

Re: My 700cc wheels conversion Hi Jean-Daniel, You can use one of these to adapt the stem tube to your small-diameter stem: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_175545_-1_201521_10000_201527 Love your bike - very nicely executed 700c. Best, Doug

    Mounting water bottle cages

Use a 5mm button head cap screw inserted from the seat cushion side of the seat back and retain the cage with a nylock lock nut. The cap screw should be short, no longer than 12 mm, to avoid interference with the water bottle in the cage.

building a bike around an older kit

    first ride: Quest 20 inch

The Primo Racer works on the Quest 559 like it was made for the bike. The casing is sufficiently supple to absorb the high-frequency vibrations from things like chipseal, while rolling very nicely due to the 100psi pressure. And the suspension soaks up the big stuff. Silvio speed and Sofrider...

    Quest conversion kit?

Hi Borealbliss... The short answer for all the Cruzbike goodness is "buy the Quest 451". :D However, we pride ourselves on being straight-up with our customers on everything here at Cruzbike. So let me explore your options. Downtube option: Lets say you start with a Downtube Nova...

building a bike around an older kit

Hi KB, I'm hoping you'll get lots of responses to your question about handlebar placement, because a lot of thoughtful folks around here have done a lot of experimenting with it. My $0.02: - Handling seems to benefit from having the handgrips in line with or ahead of the steering axis. The...

    Malvern Conversion

Hi HR, You can get a little more trail if you move the axle toward the rear of the axle slot in the triangle adapter. The limit is when the chain contacts the triangle bracket when it derails to move up to the largest cog. (Sometimes we forget that on shifting the chain actually rides on top of...

Upgrading Freerider V1 to 700c wheels

Hi Rich, These are a part of a temporarily back-burner'd project to iterate the design of my red kit bike one more time. It's getting front and rear disc brakes and a rip-off of John's steering design from the Silvio. I'll need to machine the rear caliper adapter as well. My intention is to...

    Malvern Conversion

Hi There, Highrider! A lot of very clever engineering in this bike. Well done! Your hand position looks pretty good, I'd say. At some point you may want to lower your hands if you have sufficient knee clearance, but my advice would be to ride some more before tuning things; the bike's...

Upgrading Freerider V1 to 700c wheels

Hi Rich, Your idea would certainly work. The adapter would simply take the place of the original stub axle that's retained by the set screw, and have additional coverage over the existing axle's length. My motivation for not doing that was to be minimally invasive of the existing wheel parts...

Upgrading Freerider V1 to 700c wheels

Hi Rich, This hasty drawing shows what I'm contemplating to solve this problem: Basically a piece of 3/4" 6061 T-6 aluminum rod cut to 17mm length, through-drilled to 9.5mm on one side and 9mm on the other side, to 5mm depth. A piece of 3/8" steel tube is pressed into the wide side. The...

    First ride - New Sofrider

Tandems sometimes use an "eccentric" bottom bracket, where the BB axle isn't centered in the shell. This allows chain tension to be adjusted by rotating the shell, thus moving the axle fore-and-aft. Most of these require oversized BB shells with pinch bolts...

    2009 SILVIO---

Re: 2009 SILVIO This is a nicely-built bike You may want to replace the MTB handle bar and switch to brifters, but otherwise it's a good deal, and a bike that will ride very nicely. I'd say it's a bargain. Best, Doug

    First ride - New Sofrider

Hi Ken, If you want to go to a triple crank and retain the short crank arms, this crank is available in 145mm, 155mm, and 165mm: http://www.calhouncycle.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=70&idproduct=1725 You'd also need a small ring, probably a 24t. And addtional chainring bolts. I...

Upgrading Freerider V1 to 700c wheels

Hi Rich, If you have any information about your 700c wheel's hub, that would help. If it is a ball bearing hub, you could just transfer the axle, cones, and wheel spacers from your FRV1's existing rear wheel. Use a magnet to capture the ball bearings; they'll want to run away! Alternately...
