    Garmin 520

Scott, you might want to check out ipBike, if you have an Android phone. If you have a recent Samsung or Sony phone, your phone supports ANT+ sensors and several apps have varying levels of ANT+ support.

Front downtube hitting tire when shocks compress

That's a good point Dan. Putting some 2-3 inches of spacers between the headset and the steerer extension tube might be enough--if the steerer tube on the fork has enough length.

Front downtube hitting tire when shocks compress

The front derailleur is designed for a specific range of chainstay angles, typically around 60-70 degrees. With my short TFT extension, the angle probably is around 80 degrees and getting shifting to work really well is a finicky adjustment. Your chainstay angle is probably out of spec on the...

Front downtube hitting tire when shocks compress

Now it's obvious. Now that I think about it, the telescoping front tube (official name for the thing you're calling the downtube) hitting the tire is the ultimate limit on TFT extension on my bike too; the only time that happens is when I'm doing maintenance stuff to my bike, my normal extension...

First ride on USS Yiggy clipless

I'll give moving the cleat backwards a try. Seems like this is just going to be a series of adjustments until it feels really good. On the adjustment on Monday I angled the cleat a bit so that the toes are pointed slightly outwards, and the release tension is at the low end of adjustment.

First ride on USS Yiggy clipless

After about 50 miles on clipless, my inner thighs are slightly sore. This isn't a new phenomenon, they tend to get sore when I push the length and intensity of my bike rides, but these were two medium length rides. I suspect I should try getting cranks with a narrower Q factor. The clipless...

Front downtube hitting tire when shocks compress

"You do not have permission to view media within this album." BTW, You never did say what size rims you've got, nor comfirmed you turned the fork around.

First ride on USS Yiggy clipless

Probably due to a crash, my left pedal started feeling rough and made grinding noises, so my intention to try clipless pedals next year was advanced to now! Some more details here. So I changed the pedals yesterday and went to mount the cleats. Hmm... how are you supposed to know you've got...

    Shine on you crazy diamond

I read that when I was investigating bike headlights. Very neat. The 2nd generation of the light (the one I've got) reportedly fixed some of the problems, and then Philips exited the bicycle light business. I'm thinking of modifying mine to run off an external USB power pack, either by cutting...

    Shine on you crazy diamond

I've picked up a Philips Saferide 80 lux light which does a lot of beam shaping so the light illuminates the road relatively evenly and very little light shines above the light's vertical height, good for road, not so good for serious mountain biking. It's big drawback is short battery life on...

USS Yiggy (version 1.1), a Trek Y 26 CruzBike Conversion

USS Yiggy is going clipless! Probably due to a crash (which severely bent my big chainring and somewhat my middle chainring), my left pedal bearings seem to be going bad. At first a click, then also some audible and felt roughness. So new pedals were in order. I went to several bike shops...

So you want to train with power on a budget?

I've contemplated making an arduino-based wind sensor using pressure sensors and a pitot tube, but this is a lot easier....

Mongoose Tactic women's mountain bike as donor?

Looks nice. The price of the new bike is a good indicator why the shocks are not very good--a good front suspension fork by itself could be several hundreds of dollars. I suspect the frame is a bit on the heavy side, but likely structurally sound. You should be able to upgrade the components...

    SofRider - $700 - Falls Church, VA

I passed probably less than 400 feet from the pin on that map yesterday, cycling up and back on the W&OD Trail. I wonder how many Cruzbikes are in the Washington DC area.

    SofRider - $400 - Ernul, NC

These Sofriders & Freeriders are kind of tempting... Less klugey than my Conversion Kit Trek Y-26. But perhaps not that much of an improvement, I guess a Quest or a Silvio could be in my future, say next year.

    Hare and Hound

I do get umm... annoyed? motivated? when I get passed, but I know there are lots of very strong riders out there that can leave me in the dust. For example, Hains Point Gate to Gate, holy cr*p, 32.6 mph over 2.5 miles?

USS Yiggy (version 1.1), a Trek Y 26 CruzBike Conversion

Lots of changes USS Yiggy 1.3 Changed crankset to Shimano M361 170mm 48/38/28 crankset previously mentioned. As I suspected, the chain is too short so I can't go into big-big gear, but that's the only gear I can't change to. I've jammed it up several times now, which I understand is a good...
