Bent rim (Velocity Aileron) - ignore, repair or replace?

If you repair you would probably need to forget about tubeless. If you have rim brakes you will not be happy with any repair. You could always do what I did - try to bend it back into shape and then buy a new wheel when the rim brakes wouldn't stop thumping. -Dan

    Parking Stabilization ideas

I do the exact same thing to allow me to wheel around my tank-steering Greenspeed Aero, but it never occurred to me to try the same solution on my Silvio. *s

    S40 For Sale Southern California

Sorry to hear it, ak-tux. You are one of the more ancient and honorable among the host of ancient and honorable folks I have met in my ten-plus years of recumbenting. I would grab your bike soon - I have a long history of driving to the west coast to get bikes - but at my age and condition, my...

    help adjusting rear caliper

That might help, but if I'm seeing the picture correctly, your cable housing is still too straight. When you actuate the brake, the cable housing needs someplace to go. The only place yours can go is straight back in line with itself. It takes a lot less force to buckle a column if the column is...

    A stoppie on a recumbent!!!

OK, I can't do a wheelie either. -Dan

    A stoppie on a recumbent!!!

That's how I know it was faked. I can buy the sustained wheelie, but not the gentle landing. -Dan

    Anyone gone down yet?

I've been down a few times on various recumbents, but only once on the Silvio. I was waving at a driver to thank him for letting me cross, and I didn't notice I was going to miss the curb cut until too late. I put little rips in the bar tape and one brake hood, but my Garmin got the worst of all...

    DIY chain catcher

As a former sheet metal dude, I appreciate making complex purposeful shapes with a single off-axis bend. The fun part is modeling them in SolidWorks. -Dan

    Airless Tires--Experience and Considerations

I have a high-mileage friend who got sick of fixing flats on her trike and went with Tannus. She loved them at first, seeing only a mild performance hit. Eventually the other kind of high mileage - the calendar kind - kicked in and the performance hit became unacceptably large. She is back on...

    Arizona: White Silvio for Sale

I would be driving up from Tucson, so shipping is not an issue, but I agree with Luis - I'd like to see a price on it so I could know if any bid I come up with is realistic. I'd also like to see how it was equipped three and a half years ago, either in a list or with closeup photos. You are...

    Hand fatigue

I had the exact same experience with my Barcroft Virginia. Let me assure you that your RWD proficiency will return and stay returned. I can now hop on RWD or FWD and just ride. Brains are remarkable thinks. -Dan

    Hand fatigue

"Arms at almost full extension" doesn't sound like a relaxed position to me. Possibly this is why you are having trouble relaxing the "death grip." I mean, aero is great and all, and I went through a period of wanting my arms out to steer from the shoulders to save my arm muscles, but the...

FD adjustment after changing boom length and angle

Wait, how vintage? Silvio v1.0 had four derailleur mounting positions. Mine mounted in the second holes from the top when I had the 15cm extension. Removing the extension forced me to drop down to the third holes. I'm kind of average size, so I'm guessing the first and fourth pairs of holes must...

    Eyeglasses while leaning back

There are not always perfect solutions. I'm a progressive lens guy most of the time. I got some single vision sunglasses for my Fujin lowracer (similar recline to the fast Cruzbikes) because I was missing all the scenery lying back. The single visions fixed that, but now I can't read the small...

Effect of lowering boom on steering tube?

That might explain why I prefer riding without the chainstay extension on my Silvio 1.0 despite having my hands higher than I'd prefer. -Dan

Why is the adjustable front boom curved on the S40 and V20?

Gee, I always thought it was mostly to lower the handlebars and the little shifter stalk was a by-product. My Silvio 1.0 shifts fine in at least two of the four rear derailleur mounting location (for with and without the chainstay extension), but the bars are too high for both of them. -Dan
