    Derailleur Suicide

Speaking of scanning, if it can be done at all, it can probably be done with yours if you don't snap it in two. Just flatten the bent part in the model the scan generates. -Dan

    Derailleur Suicide

Two years ago I destroyed the hanger on my v1.0 Campy Silvio. Robert still had a few hangers then, so I ordered two of them - one is installed, the other is untouched. Since it is made of unobtainium, I'm not willing to sell it, but on the off chance Doug has misplaced the recipe I could loan...

    GPS Mount for Silvio S30/V

The newer Silvio bars must be bigger. On my 1.0 the Garmin mount fits right at the center of the bar. If the newer bars are bigger, it should still mount just off center. Or find some bigger O-rings. By the way, that mount is the one I use on my Windcheetah, where it works perfectly. -Dan

    Fighting residual wobblies

Ride any bike through a puddle and look at the trail it leaves. Bikes wobble. My Cruzbike enjoyment increased dramatically when I quit holding myself to an impossible standard of stability. -Dan

    Katy Trail

On the basis of my riding one twenty-mile section near the middle, I'd say NOT the Silvio. It's mostly hard-packed, but there are soft spots and the occasional puddle. -Dan

Neophyte in need of Vendetta V20 setup help...

After you get a first approximation on fit, the Cruzbike site has some excellent learn-to-ride instructions. Highly recommended. -Dan

GPS unit or iPhone with an app such as Map my Ride

Another point in favor of the phone: GPS by itself doesn't eat a lot of battery. As long as you leave it in your pocket with the screen off it will last all day, and when you get lost you can pull it out to see where you are (and where you've been). A $30 wired cyclometer can give you the rest...

    Your Advice Would be Appreciated

    Your Advice Would be Appreciated

The steepest hills (at a guess, over 12%? 15%?) will still give me problems on the Cruzbikes due to wheel spin. Power needs to be applied very smoothly. As a reminder for anyone coming from other recumbents, it's best practice to not ride anything else while you are learning MBB-FWD. You will...

    Silvio 1.0 Chainstay Extension

My 1.0 came to me with a 100 mm extension and a Campy triple (see my avatar). It worked fine for the year I rode it that way, but I took it off to try the standard-type fit (I'm a standard-size guy), and everything got better except for my already high hands getting a little higher. The curved...

    New Bike Blues

My "extra" ring in my triples - all of them - is the big one. It only sees use when the rear wheel is higher than the front. -Dan

    Adjustable seat angle

I was thinking the opposite. I would use the infinite adjustability to find the perfect angle and then throw away the adjuster. -Dan

    The Fred Thread

I own a white one, but I get jealous every time I see one in black with red accents. Too bad the Large size is only available at REI in sherbet colors by now. -Dan

Quest deal of the week on BROL

This isn't exactly fair. The amount of anti-Cruz crankiness on BROL is way down from what it once was. -Dan

Bought -- 100 mm Silvio chain stay extension

This is the first I've heard of Shop Mate. Very cool. The two bolts/two nuts/four washers needed to attach the extension to the chainstay are included. You should already have the hardware to attach to the bottom bracket. I'll go to the Post Office when it opens on Monday (tomorrow), and I'll...

Bought -- 100 mm Silvio chain stay extension

Mine cost $100 me also (Hal offered me the bike at $100 off if he kept the extension), but I would take $50 USD plus postage for a friend. It's not even all that dusty, although there are a couple paint scrapes. I could send photos if you care. I can do the weighing and measuring, but how would...

Bought -- 100 mm Silvio chain stay extension

My Silvio 1.0 came to me with a 100 mm extension (see avatar photo), but as I am only five feet nine inches tall I eventually took it off and am much happier now. It was nice having the handlebars lowered, but the high bottom bracket closed my hip angle more than I prefer. So yeah I have one...

    EXPIRED - Vendetta 1.0 - $2200 - Scottsdale, AZ

The new ad explains the headrest. I did something similar on my Fujin but I used a sock instead of a beanie because the Challenge headrest is tiny. -Dan
