    What's Your Crank Length?

172.5 I am fairly certain mine are that long. I appreciate the extra leverage which allows me to climb quickly at a lower cadence.

    My Pine Conversion

Great looking bike If you documented the design and build, I would be interested in reading about it. At any rate, I can not wait to read your ride report.

    Personal best downhill speed

34 MPH I've used the Silvio for commuting only but my top downhill speed hovers around the 34 MPH mark. Keep in mind, this is the middle of the state of South Carolina and it is fairly flat here. If I were back in Pittsburgh, my descents would be faster, but my climbs would probably be quite a...

Higher gear, learn to spin or enjoy coasting?

Well said, Ken "Most important is to NOT be in TOO LOW of a GEAR when you start pedalling." That is definitely good advice. In any circumstance, riding a Cruzbike (or any recumbent) requires a concious effort to ensure that you are in the proper gear for the situation. It's no fun rolling...

Higher gear, learn to spin or enjoy coasting?

Stop Pedaling jdorlon: That seems to be my current riding style too. While the Silvio has proven to be a capable climber with my up hill speeds easily matching what I do on an upright bike, there is still room for improvement in climbing and for raising my average on the flats.

Higher gear, learn to spin or enjoy coasting?

Thanks for the advice and I Thanks for the advice and I know I am still inexperienced on the Silvio, but for the first time in a long time I am able to go fast on a bike. As for taking my feet off the pedals, I think I'd rather stay clipped in. Unclipping at speed doesn't sound like a practice...

Higher gear, learn to spin or enjoy coasting?

I noticed that when going above 30 MPH, I tend to spin out of my highest gear, 53 x12. At high revolutions on a slight downhill, I begin to feel unsteady and I will back off and coast until my speed begins to drop. I assume the aerodynamic advantage of my body position on the Silvio allows...

Ride of Silence on a Silvio

So far it's the only "action" shot of me on a Cruzbike. This was at the end of the Ride of Silence in Columbia, SC. I rode the 7 miles with my 10 year-old daughter.

    Musical cross wind detector

"Stack of Dimes" welding Aluminum alloys are a challenge to weld, let alone do it beautifully. Back in the day, Cannondale was known for its flowing, fillet-like welds. As it turns out, the magic is in the grinding and polishing of the welds which can weaken the frame at the welded junctions...

    Zefal Spy Mirror A+

Ak-tux... It is an amazing record-breaking machine, indeed. I certainly will not out-ride the performance of this bike anytime soon. As for the video, I've watched it several times and even found myself on Youtube last night watching that one and several others. My wife just walks by and...

    Zefal Spy Mirror A+

Wide Angle, Not Distorted I agree with the idea that it's more of a 'objects-in-mirror-may-be-closer-than-they-appear' than a distortion. For me, I want to see as much as I can behind me and the panoramic effect is helpful when determining whether or not the travel lane is clear.

    Zefal Spy Mirror A+

a ride report is forthcoming So far I have ridden my weekday commute of 27 miles round-trip every day this week and I intend to do so through Friday. I also joined my 10 year-old daughter for the 7-mile Ride of Silence here in Columbia, SC last night. My Monday morning commute was a bit...

    Zefal Spy Mirror A+

Pictures will come eventually Charles, it's not one of the new Silvios; it's a V1.0 that is going to need a little TLC before she's ready for photos. There are so many gorgeous examples of this machine, that I need to have mine ready to show off properly. I'll hopefully get some time to clean...

    Zefal Spy Mirror A+

I have become accustomed to using an eyeglass-mounted mirror (CycleAware HeadsUp) because I never could find a bar-mounted mirror that would stay put and give a clear view of the road behind me. Mind you, this goes back to my upright-riding days. I received a Zéfal Spy mirror from...

Silvio 1.0 Frameset Value?? Want To Upgrade To 2.0....

You could look in this forum You could look in this forum to see what others have sold their Silvios for to get a benchmark price. Then come up with a figure which you feel is fair and post it here and be willing to entertain offers or list it on eBay and see what the market is commanding for...

    Tyre wire limit

It depends on your tyre Some tires, like Continental Gatorskins (which I prefer) have wear dimples near the centerline of the tread. However, Gatorskins have a very shallow tread pattern; something like a hybrid-type tyre might have deeper tread. In that case, I would assume that when your tire...

Just Ordered the Silvio 2.0 Frameset

Eric: Isn't that your plan to buy a Silvio? When you do, you should invite me over for a test ride. I'll buy the post-ride libations.

Flying uphill in Oklahoma on my Silvio

20-25 MPH Winds? What is it like riding into that on a Silvio? If I am on my upright bike, I would probably come to a dead stop. Even riding into a slight headwind or cross wind is enough to make my usual ride quite difficult.
