I'm 6' with fairly long legs. I really like the way the short cranks wind up. By that, I mean that the short cranks get you moving really quickly. I just think you lose a step or two in top end and in power. For me, the loss of power seems to be a bigger loss than the quick bursts of speed...

I have pulled in my horns on short cranks. I had a "hold on a minute" moment yesterday when I did a trial with my longer cranks. Same bike, same route, the only diffrence was the different cranks. I was easily 2-3 mph faster in places where i was noting my speeds for comparitive purposes...

Campy makes nice stuff. The shifters, which are arguably the most important (and expensive) parts are totally rebuildable. Shimano shifters are pretty much throw-away. Mark

One thing I did observe and was curious about was your adaptation for the rear rack It seems you managed to make a standard rear rack work on a Silvio, while others have had to settle for a front rack. I think many would like details on your adaptation. The Streamer looks good on there, too...

My Pacific conversion used to roll out pretty good. It took a bit to get 'er going, but whe wound up really well and would maintain a pretty good speed. Mark

I agree and I should have mentioned more clearly that I was hijacking the thread away from John's new concept and daydreaming about the current Silvio offering. FWIW, the Silvio already has the ability to accept alternate front and rear ends, IMHO. They just need to be built! Again, I agree...
