new kit just arrived, to be fitted to F frame moulton

Hi Huw, Having just watched this: http://www.northroadbicycle.com/fframemovie.html I love those '60's style promo films... I think you'll have a very entertaining and unique bike with excellent riding qualities. And there's a good chance it will be able to break down like the original for...

    Freerider/Xtracycle Mating

A most excellent truckster! Add a pair of footpegs to the false bottom bracket in the swing arm and you could be runnin' a taxi service! ;) Nice job.

    Upgrading gears

Hey there, good to see ya again. 52/39 should be fine with 26" wheels. The Sofrider V2 uses a 53/39 as I remember. You'll want 8 or 9 speed for the rear, 11/32 or 11/34 cassettes work well and are easily found. Remember you'll need to change your shifters.

    7-day Silvio ride

Hi Jim, I like the beard :D Excellent reports from the road. These are incredible bikes. Anything that gets the BROl'ers going, especially when the word "hype" gets elicited, is great stuff. Can you describe the differences on this ride from last year's, where you rode a Sofrider V-1...

Bike shop having trouble. Need parts suggestions!

With an old Pacific MTB, all of this is quite possible. None of it is a show stopper. You need an English thread bottom bracket, 68mm, with a 115 to 118mm axle...

    Qrings

Well Done, Jack, Very interested in what you learn. They're super adjustable, and I'll be interested to find out where you select your optimum eccentric point to be. Best,

    Southern California Cruz-in

Hi Mark, I think this is a great idea. I am trapped on the east coast by a highly unpredictable "real job" at present. I suspect Socal is a great place to ride in the mid-to-late fall and I'd love to make it. How long does the good weather last in your neck of the woods? obe great to get John...

    Stem adapter for conversion kit

Hi Tom, Most of the WallyWorld bikes have a 1" threaded stem. This will require an adapter that looks like this: Here's one place to get one...

    Softrider V2 not available?

Hi Charley, The V2 will be available again; I would advise against ordering a V1 to upgrade because the V2 frame has many optimizations the V1 lacks. Stay tuned... and Be Well

    New booms

Jack, Thanks very much for posting the picture. This may be an optical illusion in the photo; I moved it to an application to allow me to blow it up... It looks like the plane of the bolt head isn't parallel with the plane of the derailleur bracket. Is the fitting under the bolt symmetrical...

Befitting of a Silvio: Shimano Di2

Ahhh, all things become possible as batteries improve. Wonder if it works better than Mavic's electronic system that came out a few years ago? Combining Japan's bicycle and electronics dynasties could produce some amazing stuff! No doubt we'll see RF shifting control to replace all those...

Noob New Yorker Needs Advice on a few concerns…

Hi, How tall are you? What is your inseam measurement? Many of your questions can be answered extensively with that information. You'll need to add 1.5 inches to the standover height for most frames to estimate the seat pan height for a conversion bike. The conversion standover height needs...

    Doug, thanks for the help

Hi David, Thanks very much for letting me know the bike is working for you. I'm particularly pleased that your wife is enjoying the bike. Just hollar is there's anything else you need - there's quite a brain trust around here on these bikes. Any time you wanna chat about V-1 mods, just lemme...

    The Scottish Conversion

Hello... Looks like a quite suitable frame. I've always liked the rear swing arms that arch over the bottom bracket; you can even remove the bottom bracket if you're careful! The steerer tube shouldn't be a problem. My assumption is the tube has a 25.4 mm outer diameter, which makes this a...

    Tires (wheels) for Sofrider V1

Hi again, Dave... The V2 actually uses the same size tires as the V1 - 1.50 x 26, but they are rated at 100 psi instead of 65 psi. Your tire choice is dictated by what type of riding you'll be doing. I have one of the Interbike display prototype V1's as my personal bike. I have 1.00 x 26...

    Sofrider V1 stem re-assembly

Hi Dave, The Sofrider V1 uses a fork with a very long steerer tube. There is a "star-fangled nut" installed into the top of the tube, like any threadless headset would use. The adjustable stem that attaches to the steerer tube is a little unusual in that in addition to having two cinch bolts...

Confirmed: Mark B is an idiot

Well, be kind to yourself - because the low-probabilities that combine to create accidents really don't care how smart you are. You were trying to help somebody out and that's what you were thinking about. Also, a higher power may have decided that He didn't care for your component selections...

    derailleur selection

Is most of the noise from the "rear", or front? Is the 105 derailleur a long cage one, and is the chain slack at any point in the shifting? When the rear derailleur is shifted into the lowest gear (largest cog) is the derailleur idler cage nearly parallel to the chainstays? I've heard of...
