    Thinking of upgrading...

When I first got my Silvio I pumped the Kind shock up so hard it was completely rigid. Very hard ride. Pinch flats twice a week. I was trying to get the back suspension to be softer or longer travel. I cut a powerball in half and stuck it in there. Eventually my brain worked and I let some...

Flying the Flag without the drag

My Claud Butler was made in the fifties. I overtook all the dispatch-riders in London. The only person who could overtake me was my cousin, and she had a Rover Safety.

Flying the Flag without the drag

In the eighties I went 15000 miles on my Claud Butler before they stole it. Wheels never bent. Not even a bit. I do not remember how many times my Silvio's wheels have been in the LBS. Those old Rigida wheels seemed rigider than these modern ones. I also remember the old days when the only...

IS2000 to flat disc brake mount???

At each end of my Silvio I have two adapters screwed together. I have loads of different shapes of adapter. I tried them all in different combinations different ways round until I got the callipers in the right place. Took ages. Different design specs for everything these days. Look what...

    Off Road on an S40?

I agree with Doug Kline. My Silvio is okay on gravel unless it is too steep. You cannot bunny-hop, so go slow enough to avoid the holes. I do not keep up with all the modern subclasses of DF, but if the Silvio had been invented 50 years ago they would have called it a racer-tourer.

Battle of the Brands - Bike Sebring 2020

Way to do it. Go with a suicide vest and order them to take your bike, fully assembled, in with the passengers and go to the nearest airport to Sebring, and have a helicopter waiting for you there. I will make it one day.

    How about a Tandem!?!

And the stoker can have the chainwheel going out of adjustment all the time and getting greasy hands in freezing cold weather. What is that weird grinding noise? Why have we stopped? Chain jumped off? Again? Well hurry up and fix it. I am getting bored standing holding the handlebars...

    How about a Tandem!?!

That Afar is all very well, but all those Disraeli gears would drive me even more insane than I already am. Could it have two Rohloffs and two Pinions?

An S40 update 350 miles in

@Greg S so you got it to fit you after 350 miles? Astonishing. Took me at least 2000 miles and several handlebars. And brakes. And gears. Like ak-tux said, there is probably some tweak that would help, but it is hidden from you at this time. No quick easy route to becoming a shaman. You...

Battle of the Brands - Bike Sebring 2020

Look at all those screens Mrs O is using! Is she trading derivatives while she rides? Or is she a drone pilot? I know you are not allowed to answer that. Anyway, what are you doing taking pictures of your bike when you should be riding it? Not the way to get fit for Sebring! No slacking!

Peregrine FWD recumbent (9 years ago)

The metal frame has a front fork at the back. Is the join inherently weak? And will the back wheel twist and wang about and make the handling weird? Cruzbikes have a triangle at the back. Stronger and more rigid. Yellow one is stronger because it is one piece. The metal one has high...

    Merry Christmas

May you always have a tailwind. Or if you are fully-faired, may you never have a crosswind. Or if you have a T50E may your battery never age and lose its ability to hold charge.

Anyone like to trade an S40 for a Bacchetta CA3?

It may have not been the Queen's English, but it was Clive James's. Fair dinkum.

Anyone like to trade an S40 for a Bacchetta CA3?

Fair dinkum? Are you feeling crook? Where is the dunny? It may be English but it ain't the Queen's. The island is full of noises.

What did you do to your Cruzbike today?

Ingenious indeed. I like the idea of putting front forks and back drop-outs together. Slightly different from how J Tolhurst does it. BB is low down and the handlebars are out in front. So the front wheel must be very close to the seat. So it must handle a bit different from a Cruzbike...
