    Road bike vs. recumbent comparison

It was a rush of blood to the head that caused me to buy the bike.

    extremely steep hill climb

Even now, I am limited by breathlessness that prevents me from reaching the pain barrier. Maybe that is a good thing. I do not remember this on DF. I have never got so slow that I fell off, although I get pretty snakey sometimes. I have 23mm Rubino and never slip, although I got two...

balance assisting tilting trike prototype 2

If any Americans are reading that, do not be shocked. A fag is just a gasper.

Any enthusiasm for a UK meet?

Could do. I went to a BHPC do and I was the only Cruzbike there. I have seen some 'bents and tallbikes and vintage bikes at London Critical Mass, but I was the only Cruzbike there. Do any of you exist?

    Hot in Essex

That is what hapenned. I did it again yesterday. I drank even more water than last time. My kidneys did not get any of it. My sweat-glands got the lot. But in 30c I feel fine. I actually go faster than normal. I think I was a camel in a previous life.

    Nohands riding and starting.

You need a long, almost flat hill. Too steep and you will have to brake. And you want a smooth road.

    Loaded up

To do this trip this year is very good timing. Worse drought for ages. You won't get rained on, even in Wales. How does all that freight effect the handling of the bike?

I am in exactly the same situation.

    That Jason Perez dork

I am very confident in handling the bike at all speeds, but I cannot stop worrying about the road surface. Also, I cannot bring myself to trust the tyres in the high-speed, leaning-over turns. It amazes me how the motorbike racers lie it flat at 100mph.

    Nohands riding and starting.

I went through that stage on my Silvio. It feels as if the wobbles are amplifying, like some sort of positive feedback. Soon you will be able to go for ages. A bumpy road can disrupt you. Sometimes the bumps have a steering effect. I never got anywhere near no-hands on my Grasshopper, but...

Awesome. The tiltmaniac project is still happening. Slow progress is progress.

I saw a bloke in London go over a hole so big that his light flew off and smashed.

Who said that you cannot 'stand on pedals' on a recumbent?

One of the reasons why I gave up DF.

I was riding in London in the winter and my bobble-hat flew off.

Riding in the cold (not really) poll

I have ridden in cold like that in the London suburbs, when the street is white with frost. If it is that cold the ice freezes bone dry and is not slippery. Aussies can have their beer at the barbie and they don't have to mess around with a cooler or a portable fridge.

    Road bike vs. recumbent comparison

Poor old whoever is behind him in the peloton. It is called drafting. I do not have a cadence meter. I did have one, but it never worked, and then it broke. I know my cadence fluctuates enormously. On my Grasshopper I used to tell myself to spin faster. I kept forgetting, and catching...

Is there a prefered way to fall?

Years ago I rode my Grasshopper into the side of a car, because I am an idiot. I broke my elbow. I think elbows are vulnerable. Every winter I say to myself I should get elbow-guards like skateboarders have. On a DF you can go slowly, then you won't go over the bars. On a 'bent, however...

    First Crash On the Vendetta

Try heel-clips made from sawn-off toe-clips. Have I mentioned that before?

    That Jason Perez dork

I nearly left the road on my Silvio because of a tiny bump. I was doing 30mph. Putting Tannus on the Grasshopper made me realise the importance of the air tyre's flexibility. Tannus is definitely not for the Silvio.

    That Jason Perez dork

There is descent where I can get to 40mph, if I pedal flat out and exhaust myself so I can't get up the other side, and I can only do it because it is so steep. Jason was coasting at over 50mph on an almost flat gradient. Goes to show the Silvio has better air-brakes than the Vendetta. His...
