2019 S40 coming soon!

I finally succumbed after lurking for years. First ever recumbent is a new S40 in orange. Probably the first ever in mainland China (other than the titanium clones). Wow... :)

There are titanium Cruzbike clones? Any further info/links on those?

I very nearly pulled the trigger at 11 a.m. to get the $300 discount. But ultimately I balked at dropping $4k on a very different bike that I've never ridden -- or even seen in person. That's a tough check to write... The appeal of a 'bent that climbs better is strong though. I've been riding a Bacchetta Giro for two years and still have to walk up climbs I used to scoot up without issue on my DF bike. I'm willing to throw some money at riding comfortably and capably again, but I'd like to have a reasonable probability of success for my investment. I live in NC, so maybe a day trip to Lumberton for a test ride is in order.

Cheers,

-Jack

No plans as far as I know on a titanium version. However, I can attest that it is a great recumbent! I doubt that you will be disappointed. I have been riding a Cruzbike since 2009, and have never considered returning to a DF.

I am seriously considering purchasing a 2019 frame for a winter project later in the year. This one would be a dedicated 1x11 (or 12) graveler.

I bought my first Cruzbike four years ago without ever having seen one, with the lure of a 15% discount. I still have that bike, an ancestor of the Q45, along with an S30 (predecessor to the S40) that I rode my first-ever century on last year.

Have you considered going to the Cruzbike retreat next month? You don't have to be a Cruzbike owner to participate.

I can only buy a frame as I’m an international customer so the financial hit is not as great at first. Although ‘clones’ exist, I felt that route to be too risky due to getting the right fit - I’m 6’5”. Even if I visited the factory. Even though I don’t know Rob, I’m 100% certain he’ll provide the right sizing for me ;) and as it’s my first recumbent and Cruzbike, this level of service is important to me. p.s. I feel a little uncomfortable posting a link to a ‘clone’ here so I have decided not to. There are only a few titanium specialists over here.

Hi Jack,
I don't think you can really tell much from a single test ride, as most people take a while to learn to ride a Cruz bike.

I was in your boat 2 years ago and was actively looking for a used Quest or Silvio in my area when they announced the T50 Kick starter program. I just could not justify the $4-5K intro price for a new bike I wasn't convinced I would like or even ride. So I got an orange T50 frameset and built it up myself for a much lower investment.

And I must admit I love tinkering and modifying my T50 almost as much as riding it.

So maybe consider a T50, used Quest, Q45, or used Silvio to get you started, you can always sell when it is time for an upgrade, or if you decide an MBB is not for you.

Hello,
I am very happy to start the adventure of riding a s40, it’s a new challenge I wanted to start :)
I ordered a s40 frame kit and I was planning to use parts from my cannondale caadx. Especially the wheels.
For the rear s40 wheel (using front cannondale caadx) it seems to be ok. But looking to the assembling video it seems the front s40 wheel is not exactly the same as the rear wheel from my caadx ?
Thanks for your help

I think any standard 10,11 or 12 speed 700C roadbike wheel hub (spacing is 132.5mm hence accepting a range 130mm to 135mm) with a standard quick release should fit the front of the S40. It's just a roadbike with wheels reversed back to front;).

Nice, Many thanks for your confirmation :)

Titanium is a horrible recumbent frame material IMHO. Good for uprights where you can have short tubes. Too flexy for recumbents.

My opinion of course.

In thought; expanding the paradigm of traversity
There is a new alloy that frame makers are using that's super magnesium. Why not have a limited edition out using the same moulds. Just swap the aluminium alloy to super magnesium???? Apparently it's light and has the strength of carbon and it's durable ????
