Hi Doc, your V is looking good.

Thanks for the reminder about the delay in shipping from Thor. Time to order my seat for the Silvio.

Mark

My seat/Ventist pad have been ready, but since air shipping has halted for the time being, all orders are being delayed. We exchanged emails and he's sending it economy class, which will take some time to get here...

So, how's your Silvio project going?

Blessings,
DocS (Rudy)

Hi Doc,
The Silvio is still in the planning stages, but I think I have a complete plan now, and I am starting to purchase a few of the critical components as I find them.

The Thor seat just moved to the top of my priority list. I did not know about the shipping delays.

So, for the last few weeks I've been getting a clicking sound while pedaling. I've checked to be sure the cranks are tight and initially thought it may be a loose spoke, but I've changed the wheelset during that time and the clicking remains...

Any other ideas? It seems to be prevalent when I'm pedaling on the left side (my left).

Thanks in advance :)

Blessings,
DocS

I'm going to check all that you mentioned, but I'm betting the culprit is Pedal Bearings... I just happen to have a new set of pedals, so that should be easy enough to test...

I'll also check my headset before I go on my afternoon ride...

Thank you!

Check/snug front seat mounting bolts and cassette. A loose cassette once took me about a month of Sundays to finally find!

So, for the last few weeks I've been getting a clicking sound while pedaling.
The V20 has a lot of bolted and clamped joints. Nowadays DF designs are very mature and have designed out adjustable bolted joints in favor of frame sizing. Bolted joints invariably have play (cannot be clamped tight enough) and eventually the parts moving while clamped together become bare metal-to-metal. That is fine for a short while but slowly with sweat and rain comes microscopic cell corrosion, especially noticeable after riding in the rain where microscopic road grit can also get in the joints. The only way to prevent the squeaks I have found is to find the region where the squeak is coming from then meticulously clean, then use waterproof grease to coat both sides of the joints to prevent the corrosion from happening again and protect the base metal. Another option where I had a squeak in the headrest assembly was again to clean very well then wrap headrest tubes in high quality Kapton tape so that metal could not contact metal. There is also a joint on the adjustable headrest assembly where the end of the frame tube does not engage far enough into the adjustable clamp by design and as a result you cannot clamp properly and it squeaks when going over bumps. That was solved by reversing the clamp orientation outward and pushing the frame tubes further into the clamp to a point where the tubes could actually bear the clamp load properly. Be sure to check the front skewer joints. They cannot be clamped tight enough to stop microscopic motion and will eventually go metal-to-metal and will need to be cleaned, lightly greased, and reclamped. I do not have any original equipment squeaks anymore, just little noises that come from my cheezy aero mods. Sorry for the wall of text.

My V is the same as yours (though I now use the current V boom and chainstay). Back when I had the original boom like yours, I had a terrible clicking sound at the bolt and clamp where the boom connects to the fork steerer tube. I inserted super thin mylar washers in between the inside of the boom and the steerer tube clamp, eliminating metal-on-metal contact, and the clicking went away.

I forgot to post pics with my new 60mm Carbon Aero wheels...

I've checked the seat bolts and recently replaced the cassette (to a smaller one) when I changed the wheelset out... clicking was there before and still there...

Blessings,

Hello DocS,

I have a V2.0 like yours but not as nice of a set up with the carbon wheels, etc. Anyway, I haven't been on this site for ages and I can't figure out how to create a separate thread for my question, as it doesn't necessarily relate to this thread. Anyway, I desperately need to replace my original headset bearings and races, since they've apparently worn a groove into themselves, which has made the bike a challenge to steer, at times. Do you know what type (specs) will do the trick?

Ciao,
Robert

Glad to help, ime clicking noises with pedals are usually the interface where the cleat meets the pedal. Running Speedplays I have had a few clicks in the past, some light lube on the cleat and click no more

Just make sure you don’t walk across the carpet w that bit of lube on your shoes. Not a marital bliss moment! But in case of emergency, keep a can of mineral spirits and a clean rag handy

You mean the black dirty oil rings that the SpeedPlay cleats make in the nice beige carpet all the way up the stairs? Been there twice and cleaned it up twice with a wet rag and dish soap. I am using Look plastic cleats dry now so not a problem seeing as I am a slow learner. I like the Look Keo about the same as the SpeedPlay Zero. No little assembly screws to grind down on the Look Keo cleat.

My Thor seat with Ventist pad finally arrived yesterday afternoon!

In anticipation, I had already purchased an ICE Neckrest (for Carbon Fiber Seats) and some Moldable Plastic (from Amazon).
So, yesterday I jumped on the project of mounting my seat, right after work.
I had to cut the "mounting wings" down, so the seat would sit on the frame and drill new holes, then I used the moldable plastic on top of the frame, set the seat on it, pushed it down a bit to get it bedded and let it cool / solidify. After it turned white, I drilled through the holes in the mounting wings, up, through the plastic and the seat.
I decided to drill two holes in the top part of the seat, so that I could use the Perez Clamp and use longer button head bolts to further secure the seat to the frame. I noticed gaps between the seat and the frame (especially at the rear of the frame) and decided I would use the moldable plastic in those spots as well.
I got the moldable plastic in place, then secured the bolts, tightening everything down and let the plastic cool/solidify.
I peeled the backing off the Velcro that Gregor supplied with the Ventist seat and positioned it, so I could affix it properly, then turned my attention to the Ice Neck Rest. I mounted it to the top part of the seat, using the 3 bolts supplied with it, then tested it a few times, making adjustments as I went. In all, I think it's pretty comfortable...

So, after I removed the CB Neckrest bracket, I removed my hydration system...
I really like the way it works, but am not sure I want to mount these bottles to my new Carbon Fiber seat...

I have an Angleteck Aerotrunk bag that I got from someone on this forum (thanks again!) and test mounted it. It worked great on the Thor seatback and fit over the Ice Neckrest (with the pad removed). I decided that for the time being (now that it's cooler out), I'll figure out how to mount my Vacuum insulated bottles with Camelbak Drink Tubes later. for now, I'll just put a couple of 20oz bottles in the bag at the back.

I do like the shoulder support this Thor seat provides. I'm curious to see how it feels riding (especially up hills)! Guess I'll find out this evening!
A fellow Vendetta rider and I are heading out to do a quick 30 miles this evening!

I'll have to get some pics later and post them up.

Warm regards and God Bless,
Rudy (AKA DocS)

So, I excitedly took my Vendetta out last night and was anxious to try it with the new Thor seat...

I met a buddy that also rides a Vendetta and has had a thor seat on his for years and headed out on a 30 mile ride. We weren't trying to send any records, but set a brisk 19.6 mph average pace for the 30 mile ride.

I have to say that the Lumbar support was very welcomed! I put some padding in the Ventist Pad I was using on the Cruzbike stock seat and it was pretty good, but this was better. I also noticed the "shoulder" support. I do like the extra power it feels like I generate with this added support, but it feels like it puts my head up in the wind... I wasn't quite expecting it to be that high...

I need to extend my boom a bit. I think maybe an inch or so, but my legs were bent a bit more than usual (not only noticed by me, but my buddy as well).

So, at this point, I'm going to extend the boom, then I'm planning on riding it a bit more before making any other changes or alterations.
I'm kind of wondering if this seat is a bit too small for me. I got a Medium and am wondering if a Large would have been better (although I'm not that tall, 5"10).

I forgot to get pics, but I'll try to get some later this afternoon.

Blessings,
DocS
