New Q45 coming....

Darn... on my S40 I need to use 34 front and 40 back to get up to some of the Seattle hills. I am afraid 42 front and back won't be enough. 42 front and 50 back should be good.
Wheel and tire size will also have an impact on gearing. The new Q45 has 584 wheels. (Roughly 5% larger diameter.)

i think if you stay 1x you can probably pull it off okay if you just add some chain and then maybe a long cage and or a wolfs tooth, particularly if you keep the front ring that small. if the deflection is too big it will be pretty obvious.

Pictured is a T50 with 1x11 speed 11-50 Sunrace cassette and Wolftooth hanger extender. The derailleur and shifter are Shimano M8000 parts. The chainring is a Quest 42T e-ring. It shifts REALLY nicely. Although the Q45 hanger arrangement is slightly different, I don't know of any reason the extender wouldn't work.

Nice to know!

My home rail-trail is muddy in spots, so one of the first things I'm going to want to do is add fenders to my new Q45. In the youtube video about fender installation, Robert recommends Planet X ALX fenders. Two questions: (1) is that recommendation still good, and (2) the 27.5 version of the fender set comes in 2 widths: 50mm and 60mm. Which one do I want?

Thanks.

1. I woułd second that recommendation or better yet Axiom similar or sks similar if they still make them. (In one video Robert suggested raceblades or similar but I don’t have experience with them and would guess that there are concessions to frequent removal. )
2. That depends on how wide your tire is which is also affected by rim width. Basically you need something thar can fit over your tire so that nothing on the tire and being flung off gets past the fender. Factors: wider gives more room for error, wider could be harder to fit within the fork, wider creates more drag.

I always go a little big with more clearance because that leaves space for snow, that leaves more room for keeping on going rather than having to stop and adjust, I am not super at fitting them. The polycarbonate plastic ones are nearly indestructible except for the built in mounting hole for the chainstay bridge attachment. Make sure that is not stressed when mounted ( bolt goes through at an angle instead of perpendicular to the fender). I imagine the Aluminum version is the same and possibly even tougher.

Best practice is to use two rear fenders or one rear and two front fenders so that you get coverage for your whole drivetrain including the bottom bracket.

This thread is so long that it's possible I posted this info previously! I'm on my phone so it's too hard to scroll through 4 pages of posts, sorry.

As a daily commuter in rainy Seattle, I use two rear fenders on my Q45. On the back wheel for the usual reason (including courtesy to the other commuters on our bike trail), on the front wheel to keep my drivetrain and feet dry(er). See photos of the handmade mount and lots of discussion of this topic at

Well, apparently the new Q45's have arrived at Cruzbike and they'll be shipping them out over the next several weeks, per a notice from Maria to all pre-order buyers. So, we'll soon be able to close out this thread speculating on what is coming to new threads discussing the new bikes with peoples' impressions and builds!

Mines on the truck for delivery. Cold and snow with nothing but bad weather in the future here for now.
I'll just take my time putting it together and wait for warmer, drier weather.
I see there is a new assembly video up for the latest model.

Mine was delivered minutes ago! :D

Norton, thanks for pointing out that there's a new assembly video. It looks very thorough. Really looking forward to assembling mine--I'm going to take my time too.

I was going to post a link to the new video, but I got an error when I tried to post it. Posting a link isn't allowed? It's on youtube, search for cruzbike Q45 2021.

On the Cruzbike site under Q45 resources ( at bottom of the page ) there is a link, 2021 assembly.
I spent some time and put two good coats of wax on my frame before I started assembly. Thought it would be easier then.

Hi Norton, good idea about the wax! What kind do you use?

I've used a few on my car and always come back to Meguiars GoldClass. It's a carnauba paste.
I've tried the new snythetic's and found them hard to work with.
