Columbia River Gorge Tour on my S30

It had its good and bad points. They need to redo the route from northern FL through the Carlolinas, as those states have destroyed the ability of bikes to ride on the shoulders of the roads of the routes by gouging foot-and-a-half wide rumble strips along most of the roads (which just happened...

Columbia River Gorge Tour on my S30

I wonder if your tour is the one that got our van? Was the van fresh from the Atlantic Coast tour? Looks gorgeous. Awesome that ACA got to see two S30s on tour this year (at least)!

Yet another hill question for my Silvio.

@ratz, lol. As I've gotten better at balancing at low speeds (so much difference from 3 months ago!), I've been able to use less force when doing a hill-start since I don't need such a large impetus to get to balancing speed. So, developing better low-speed balance helps at least in that arena...

Yet another hill question for my Silvio.

I found that I needed to change gears up, not down, when slipping if I wanted to stop the slipping. Alternately, I just accepted the slipping was happening and went with it. The other suggestions (lower tire pressure) are good. Running a wider tire can help a bit. I like my tubeless tire for...

PSA - This is why you don't ride during a thunderstorm

Meh, my chances of dying from a lightning strike are so remote in comparison to that of getting hit and killed. I just bike through the T-Storms, unless it starts hailing, or I was dry before it started :)

Need input for possible new Cruzbike product

I have the quiver-style water bottle mount. Worked very well. I think I'd prefer that to two bottles, one behind the other... In other words, I'd prefer to have two bottles, one each behind each ear. This would maximize useable volume I'd pay perhaps up to $375 for such a thing, so long as its...

New Silvio S30 Rider: first ride report

I was one of the lucky ones. Never had any issue learning to ride it-- hopped on an S30 and it just sang to me. I wobbled about at slow speeds (<6mph), but anything faster and it just worked OK. It took about 250 miles in my case to feel confident enough to ride at hill-descent speeds, and...

    Rohloff Chain Tensioner

When installing a chain tensioner for my IGH on another bike, I simply used the same derailleur. All you need to do is take an old cable-end (i.e. the part with the nob or whatever on the end), and put it through to the cable-holding bolt. Align the derailleur to the chainline and tighten the...

    Experiences Silvio S30 installed a Schlumpf SD/HSD & Rohloff hub ?

On my 3000 mile tour, I way overgeared the bike. I ended up using the 50->36 gear for the hills and still had wheel-slip. I'd just go with a 11 spd 10-42 cluster were I to do it again. It is far more simple, it is (quite a bit) lighter, you have less cables to run, and the range is about the...

Atlantic Coast Epic Tour ride report

This was an ACA ride: http://www.adventurecycling.org/ In particular it was: http://www.adventurecycling.org/guided-tours/van-supported-tours/2015-atlantic-coast/ So, there were two "leaders," one of whom drove the van each day. The van had camping supplies, and food within, which allowed...

Introducing the Cruzbike Underseat Scarab Bag

Ordered. Sweet! This will compliment the Banana-bags I use for more high-volume stuff perfectly!

Atlantic Coast Epic Tour ride report

OH and a couple of other trip highlights: We took a number of ferries. One of them had no observation deck in which to sit. So, I sat on the bike. ... until, that is, I realized that I was *sleeping*on the bike while leaned against the ferry's side. I nearly fell asleep following one of my...

Atlantic Coast Epic Tour ride report

Certainly did have loads of fun! I still can't believe the amount of attention the bike received on the trip. It had me embarrassed (not to be riding it, but from a wealth of positive attention) a little bit!

Atlantic Coast Epic Tour ride report

Sadly, this won't be much of a ride report given the number of days spent. I'm just not that loquacious :) Raw data: http://ridewithgps.com/users/479802 Filter on "East Coast Epic Tour", and you'll find 54 days worth of GPS traces. Impressions: The Silvio S30 did wonderfully on this trip...

Rack solution for the Silvio 2.1

I used my Radical Design Banana bags (small) for an epic 3000 mile tour of the east coast of the US. Worked very well on the S30. I mounted them with the two bottom straps over the seat, and the top strap between the seat and the headrest rails (basically at the frame).

1st century - longest ride ever

As battleaxe0 says, you have to keep some wind over the coolers. For, sweat is enough assuming there is wind (often self-generated). When there isn't wind, I find they're still better than being in the sun, however, I'll need more water. Often, though, I find that I get cooled on the...

Wat is the difference between the Silvio 2 and 3 ?

Oh, and there is at least one more difference: The S30 comes with a water bottle mount on the handlebar boom. I don't think the 2.0 had that, but take that with a grain of salt and verify....

Wat is the difference between the Silvio 2 and 3 ?

Martinus, the 2.0 has a 130mm fork spacing, IIRC. I believe the BBs are the same on both, which is, (again, IIRC) a 68mm english. If you check my S30 build thread in the Silvio Brag forum, you can lookup the specs on the BB that I used to confirm.

Wat is the difference between the Silvio 2 and 3 ?

The S30 has a wider front spacing (132.5) which allows for both 130 and 135 mm hub widths. The S30 fits wider tires. The S30 has a fully carbon, one-piece seat, IIRC (certainly mine came that way). The S30's BB has a single tine instead of two tines, which make it easier to mount a light there...

1st century - longest ride ever

I too am using the "quiver" bottle mode, almost, but not quite copied from ratz. Has worked well for nearly 3000 miles of touring. I place additional water bottles in the front pocket of the Banana-racer bags, which can each hold a bottle. ... and then I found out that wearing leg and arm...
