    How to be safe from....?

I don't think this is a "California" thing. Attacks can occur anywhere. Our local marathon used to be laid out to run thru the town in a 'north-south' arrangement (and many of us cyclists use that route to ride the rest of the year), until someone complained that it did not represent a true...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Whew...90F x 60% humidity out there today. Balmy Nawth Alabama weather. ;) 15mi was enough. I think I heard my sunscreen whimpering. Yes, my master plan is to take the V thru the basics. I'm all about training at the limits (slow and fast) so that I'll develop SMA* reflexes early on. Learning...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Quick update (I'm typing with my riding gloves on, thankfully they're fingerless)...test ride this morning. I'm blessed with a nice-soft descent on the street in front of my house. Curves slowly into a 'corner cul-de-sac' and then left about 6 houses, crosses a subdivision street and down to a...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Yah, I'm looking for form factor. I don't want to hang my S5 on the bars. My tablet is Android and the Windose laptop is the house PC. I'll wait for October, no problem. I'll be lighter then!

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Thanks again. I took a look at Abbot's posts..."headtube" vs "steerer tube"...nomenclature. I'll pick up an extension...I've used 'em before. I had read previously about the "Vexit Shuffle", I'll have to give that a go when I actually get it out on the road. Otherwise, I'll have to...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

I spent a couple hrs last night doing "sittin' and fittin'". Got out my new shoes and set up the Speedplay SYZR pedals (which appear to be working nicely), etc. Unfortunately, I found that the combination of my long legs and, um, 'thickness' results in a slider/handlebar that extends out over my...

Doesn't say on the tire itself...and I threw away the tags. They were $25ea, so relatively inexpensive = Sport. They were the only 'non-folding' 28c tire in the store. Marked for 80-100psi They feel 'cushy' out on the porch (at 80psi). Not yer 700x23 x 150psi racers, for sure. I like...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Got it tagged on Amazon.com...unless my LBS has one (unlikely). Might as well pick up a matching one for the rear. Probably snag a couple Cyclestar mirrors while I'm at it. edit: my LBS sez they can have the DT Swiss 135mm skewer (and the matching 100mm one for the back) here...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Yes, I had read that they were a 'compromise' width. I think I can safely assume my hubs are 135mm. Anyone make custom skewers? Even another 1/4" would make me feel better. I've misplaced my skewer-stretcher.

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

OK...bike is built. The lighting this weekend was often by 'lightning', so I was unable to get a decent picture of it. Will have a photo-shoot soonest. Thanks to Ratz (and the rest of y'all), the build was pretty painless. I ended up rigging all the shifters and brakes several times each...

    Metric vs imperial measurers

Nope, that's Mississippi. Min legal genetic diversity here is half-sibling. :D However, in the South...you can be your own grandpa.

    Metric vs imperial measurers

Hey! I'm within 5lbs of #3. At the moment it appears to be priority #1. #4 is a given. Isn't appearing on youtube priority #6?

Wheels up! Got my wheels in yesterday afternoon. Beauties! Only fly in the ointment is the Hope rear hub...click,click,click,click,click. Freewheel is really noisy...thank god it isn't on a disc wheel! My old Shimano FW (on the V2/K) is dead silent. Great for coasting up behind walkers on the...

    Metric vs imperial measurers

KPH...Knots Per Hour. My Cateye 'puter is way off though. I'll be cruzing along at 20 knots on the gps and the damn Cateye reads 37.o4. Don't they know what a KPH is? Oh, and 0.03937 is only close. Better to use 25.4 as a conversion as it is absolute. 20 yrs ago, I went to...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

Yah, you won't know until you instrument it. I've got a bottle of MoS2 powder around here somewhere...but I think I'll just order a bag of wax so I can play too. I saw a crock pot down at a thrift-store the other day for $5. Looked new.

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

Yah...I would expect the glass jar to be very strong under a vacuum. Glass does quite well in compression. I would expect the lid to depress quite a bit under a strong vacuum...probably fail at the seals as it collapsed (and then if the release was sudden...the pressure change would likely...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

Cool! So, what level of vacuum (in/hg? mm/hg? Pa? Torr? Atm?) did you use?

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Y'know, I think I remember the chainstay clearance thing from my first conversion build (many moons ago). I'd forgotten about that. I used an antique (1980's) road-double crank and I had to shim it out to keep the chain off of the chainstay in some gears. As I recall, the crank arm to chainstay...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Ha! Finally got notification that the wheelset has shipped. woo-hoo! :) I temporarily installed the BB and chainstay last night, looks to be no problems there. I really want to have the 'real' front wheel and cogs to make sure my crank shim stack is correct for an optimal chainline...or at least...
