The hubs would have to match - if they are 12mm through axle and the same width - 100 rear and 142 front.

This is exactly how I have adjusted my own dentist pads on various bikes to customize the fit and support where needed like at the lip or for lumbar, etc.

If you practice taking the wheel off and putting it back on about 20 times in the comfort of your own home I near guarantee you will get the hang of it and that it will never be an issue.
