not private but we can all enter an established "handicap" race and add cruzbikes to our names or just add cruzbikes to our name and then plan to meet and just ride together.

Kickr Snap arrived tonight... :)

The skewer supplied with the unit isn't long enough to do the job on the V20. The fancy DT Swiss skewer I use is incompatible with the Kickr Snap mount.

Now what? What skewer do y'all use...and where do I get one?

It's 135mm, but a standard 135 skewer is too short (the 'double thickness' V20 dropouts add ~10mm...I'm guessing). I think the skewer they provided is 130mm. It looks like Wahoo sells a 142mm 'adapter' skewer that might work. I'm going to call them today. I would like to have both ends steel (rather than aluminum or plastic) as they take a pounding.

Figures you would find one with yer name on it. :D

I had looked at that one but wasn't sure the QR end would fit the Kickr Snap.

I talked to the folks at Wahoo Fitness...but no joy. It looks like they have an adapter that would work but the guy I talked to didn't really sound like he understood anything about it at all...and offered no assistance other than to say he was sorry that they didn't have a skewer that would work. o_O

Definitely a unique problem I always ran a 130mm drive wheel and never had a problem using the Supplied Skewers from Kinetic...

Isn't this the one Jason is using?

i made my own skewer from scratch to accommodate you exact problem with a disk wheel on a trainer. you don't need brakes on the trainer so how about tossing on the old non disc wheel which will be 5mm narrower?

if all else fails pm me and i'll mail you the one i made for myself. i don't use it with my new tacx neo trainer and i don't think i'll be using my cheap wheel on fluid trainer any time soon.

Ok, I have an interim fix in place. It will work until I find the time to go for a 'better' option. I found a 135mm skewer (the original that came with the V20, I think) which, while it isn't perfect (only has about 3 threads engaged in the nut), will work until I find a 140+ skewer. The lock-down lever (wide aluminum) just barely fits into the Kickr socket...it is really designed around the old style metal levers. My "riding" skewer is the 145mm DT Tandem, which fits the bike perfectly but the lever is too wide to fit the socket on the Snap.

I hadn't thought about installing a non-disc wheel. Duh. I have several...but nothing that will take my 11sp cassette. My preference is always going to be "what I normally ride" vs something special for the trainer. I think finding a decent skewer will be the best bet. I certainly can make my own out of some all-thread and a couple of nuts. I think I found that stuff when I was originally looking to solve for the 135mm skewer problem.

Thanks for the help, y'all. I can always count on the tribe to steer me in the right direction!

that is exactly what i did. you just need the loose end nuts from two cheap skewers.

Ok, the 135mm skewer worked fine. I was able to get the damn thing up and running and eventually discovered how to control the Snap via the Wahoo software. Did my initial spin downs, etc.

I only had a 15min window to ride, so I simply messed around with the erg, eventually stabilizing at 150w at ~80rpm and 130bpm. I did that for about 10min. Amusing that without wind resistance, I'm clocking around 27mph...way beyond "real world") There are some noises I need to find and fix (a loud 'tick' on every revolution of the crank. I'll have to get Miz Diane to tell me where it is coming from, it isn't obvious while sitting on the bike) and my microphone stand-pad mount is a tad on the 'wiggly' side. I will start the 'ultra sweet, low volume 1' as soon as I can.

One thing that bothered me was the Wahoo cadence sensor's output is very unstable. The numbers never settle down and vary wildly (like from mid 40's to mid 80's, once to 140...all in the span of just a few seconds and even when I'm trying to 'hold' my rpm stable. I ended up counting revs manually, 20 revs per 15 sec = 80rpm). One would expect just a tad bit more 'smoothing' of the data stream. Perhaps I need to change the battery in it?

I think minimal thread engagement on a trainer can be ok as long as you don't tighten it to the point of stripping those few threads. Just snug it up and then when you mount it in the trainer the trainer is going to lock everything in place even more so.

Make sure your trainer has updated firmware as brand new units can come with some very old firmware.

Yup, I applied same logic. It was nice and solid and will work until I apply a more permanent solution.

I went thru some updates but not sure it was firmware specific to the Kickr Snap. I'll be sure to check this evening. Thanks!
