Zwift - Cruzbike Activities (races and group rides)

Finally won my first KISS race and even more impressive was the fact it was a flat race that came down to a sprint finish. Powerups were being thrown down everywhere but I attacked early and waited for everyone else to use their powerup to early then I went full aero and pasted a few guys back to take it at the line by a bike length. My legs were crying out is pain and I was gasping for air while trying to lift my back off the seat and open up my wind pipe. In the final 100 meters one rider started to come alongside but Hardy and Miss Daisy where yelling at me to go go go. Well it was mostly Hardy yelling and downing out Miss Daisy. It was funny because right after the finish I stopped pedaling and a few riders came past me but Hardy didn't the finish arch go by see he was still yelling for me to get them back after the finish. Thanks everyone who stopped in to say hey and give me a ride on.

If you guys want to do a zwift group ride this weekend let me know what day and I can hop on my bike as early as 5am PST but would prefer 6 or 7 if that also works.

I really think I owe today's victory to the Donuts this morning. They gave me just that little extra explosive power I needed at the end.

So he's fast in real life? So many people claim everyone else is ether cheating or on trainers that give 5-10% extra power. I try no to worry about it and just be thankful I have people to race with. Today's lunch race outside was barely an effort while everyone else was push their a$$es off. Riding the V against the group just isn't a challenge anymore but I have a new series on the horizon that should raise the bar over my past accomplishments, but I'll create a new thread for that later.

Yeah, he's fast. But there are multiple serious cyclists with the same name apparently. The one I know is in Grand Rapids, MI.

Total cost from scratch assuming you own a bike is $200 for a band new quality fluid trainer. The bonus of this route is chances are it'll put you up in my league of races ;).

This is my fluid trainer at $119 and IMO it simulates a smooth 2-3% grade which means you'll have plenty of gears on both ends to work with. https://www.performancebike.com/web...Product_10052_10551_1111869_-1_400037__400037

Figure another $80 for a garmin speed and cadence sensor as well as a HR band. Seems unless you're like me and still using a 4 year old phone you can run the app on your iphone 6 or newer or Ipads.

My personal setup is a Tacx Neo smart trainer and 5 year old custom built gaming computer hooked up to a 50" TV. Ether extreme works and both will net you physical gains in your riding. I personal have been quite on the Zwift front since I haven't been one it much since I got back outside last month. The weather in CA this time of year doesn't warrant indoor training when I have so many mountains to climb. I do keep up with your post Hardy so feel free to keep sharing if you so wish. When I do get back on zwift I'll be sure to post here as well, I did kind of spend too much $ of a smart trainer not to use it.

I've already out grown my FTP OVER 9000 zwift name so it's time for a new one when I return. Thinking something like Recumbent Dork. I guess I could be convinced to go with Recumbents Rock but that sounds too corny and doesn't align with my view of how dorky recumbent riders look.

Now, could I ask a favor from the C-bikers? I feel like the lone ranger on this thread but am basically trying to keep it alive as Zwift has great potential for us as a community (or at least I feel it does). Could I get feedback as to what others think?
Well, I enjoy reading your posts and hope to see a Zwift-Cruzbike club become popular and successful.
I like Zwift and have been using it sporadically (10 hours total) but blue sky, more daylight hours, and warmer temps "win" over indoor riding most of the time. Generally I have been jumping into Zwift on different days, different hours, just whenever the "need" arises which makes it hard to join in to scheduled rides/races.

i can see why you guys can spend so much time on a trainer where sa on a df its super tedious even for 5min. its comfy. and you have free hands. read a book, play or watch something on a ya phone. going to have to get some more sensors and give zwift a go.

I'm back for a bit, not sure how I'll go about this next round of zwift but probably do a bunch of races for the most part. Crazy to see the live user numbers at the bottom of the riders list drop from over 2000 consistently to 300-600 this time of year. Makes me sad I'll have less people to race against like tonight breaking away with only one other rider in a field of 30. It also makes me happy there's 1500 or so people at any given time enjoying the fresh air outside.

I am aware of Jason winning a zwift "A category" race. Do we have any other Cruzbike racers that have accomplished this feat? How about "B" or "C" races?

Winning an A race is damn hard because there are always at least a couple fast guys in every race. You may race 10 different races in a month and battle for the podium with 30 different riders. The A group is small but most of us are just over the 4.0 limit so everyone is very equally matched.

You missed a good race today with the KISS series. We had a fast group of about 15 with me and two other riders who I do recognize from 6 months ago kept attacking off the front. Each time we did we'd lose another wheel sucker. By the time the group was down to 6 we could no longer drop anyone but that didn't stop us from keeping the group honest with continued attacks and sneaky power up usage. If I had to guess in the 1 hour race there must have been between 15-20 8-11wkg attacks so just as you caught your breath we'd attack again. Unfortunately I missed the podium by a mere half a bike length as everyone through down their aero power ups in the last half mile in an attempt to break the sound barrier. I just don't have the same outright power as some of these guys so I tend to fall short. Im not a terrible sprinter but far from excellent, I might be losing a touch trying to sprint on the vendetta vs a DF bike but it's hard to say since the DF bike never makes it on zwift. I can tell you my front wheel bounces while leaving the ground when I all out sprint on the Ridely.

Meh, I give less credit to zwift itself for their success and feel it's more the fact that they are racing 3-5 times a week compared to 1-2 every two weeks when outside exclusively. Racing into shape is probably better for a lot of people when compared to just riding around outside or actual boring training sessions.

Best part of zwift racing is it only cost $10 a month for as many races as you can handle. Worst part of zwift racing is there are no Mtb events yet ;)

I didn't catch that the results list me as finishing within the same hundredth of a second as 3rd place.
