    thoughts from a smaller rider

I'm about 5'5". I'm a little bit taller than Maria, but she has a very long x-seam; 41"+ as I remember. I have a 39" x-seam and I seem to ride all the bikes okay. The Silvio 1.0 variant required a heap of doin' to get it to fit me, but the later designs took all that work into account and don't...

Front downtube hitting tire when shocks compress

Integrating some of the previous posts, I'd do this: 1. The bike fits you now. Measure the distance from where the upper and lower seat shells bolt together to the center of the bottom bracket axle. 2. Reduce the length of the adjustable front tube until the derailleur "chainstay angle" is...

    V2.2 front derailleur help

Something to consider: Some of the earlier bikes were shipped with what is essentially brake cable housing being used as shift cable housing. I never liked this at all, though I know nowadays many bikes are shipped that way, and I've had bike shops tell me "that's all we stock, all bikes are...

Rim Change on V.2 Sofrider Question

Thanks for posting that, Tim. I was having trouble finding it on the drive I took to China with me. That file (it's scaled 1:1) is designed to be printed on label paper, cut out, and adhered to the piece of aluminum specified in the drawing info. Then take a punch and center-punch the hole...

Rim Change on V.2 Sofrider Question

I designed a very simple adapter bracket to install a disc brake to the rear swing arm on this frame. If you have a drill press, it's very easy to make. The drawing used to be on the Sofrider project page; I'll see if I have a copy on my computer (I'm in Hong Kong right now and I don't know if...

My Neck Rest is better than Yours.

On Maria's RAAM bikes I shortened the vertical rise on the headrest by 2 inches, as I remember. I cut 2" sections out of the straight section of the rise and then slotted the cut out sections 1/4". closed the tubes up, and then used them as reinforcements at the cut by shoving them inside the...

    need some help!

Check your derailleur cable housing. If it has a kink in it, and you feel a time delay between when you shift the shifter and when you hear the gears change, this can cause the chain to derail and fall to the inside on the chain ring. The "pent up" energy in the shifter cable can cause the...

    Conundrum : tandem

Hey Slim, Thanks for the drawing... I had considered this route using two Silvio v1 frames and a purpose-built connecting subframe, that would grab the Silvio frames in the same places as the rear fork and the carboyoke, with some select strengthening here and there. Problem 1: My wife...

    Conundrum : tandem

Ok folks, I have an R82 Vision tandem. I paid $3300 to get it shipped here from California in 2005. The objective was to get my son interested in riding with the family. It didn't work. I have discussed potential Cruzbike tandems with John T many times. The issue with tandems is they...

    Lessons from my recent stupidity

Don't be hard on yourself... The clamp is robust enough to handle the maintenance stand thing. If you put a bit of waterproof grease on the bolt head landing areas on the clamp, it should return to silent running. The keying function isn't all that critical if the bolts are properly...

    Quest modifications-advice wanted

Lovely machine, Gromit... How much did you have to shave off of the kickstand mount to accommodate the 700c tires? Nice job.

    Saris Thelma 2 - Wheelbase?

I use one of these... https://www.etrailer.com/RV-and-Motorhome-Bike-Racks/Highland/1370400.html Holds the bikes by the wheels and is very adjustable. Carries my wife's Vision R40, my Quest, my Sofriders, my Silvio's 1.0 and 2.0, and I have delivered Vendettas to North Carolina with...

Newbie Needs to know if this is an acceptable donor bike

That's as good as they get nowadays... top tube below the height of the bottom of the head tube - check. non- disk brakes - check. non- one-piece crank - check. simple front fork dropouts - check. threadless fork stem - check. Good choice.

    Help from Quest owners

Crankset... ...uses 110mm BCD. Generally the smallest chainring that'll fit on a 110mm BCD is 39 teeth. You'll want to keep the chainring guard in place to prevent chain suck on quick shifts or over large bumps/potholes. Cheers, Doug

New Car to transport my Silvio

I traded it in... Nice van, Ken. Looks like they re-balanced the height vs. length equation to the good. Mine was a 2011 XLT premium - premium basically meant it had windows in all the panels and some useful things like bluetooth and a backup camera. I bought it for the high roof, but...

    Silvio V 1.0 on Air

The radiused interfaces should be fine.. 10mm is good. Rubber is useful, but probably not needed if you've radiused everything. A very clever modification. There's a data sheet out there on this air isolator. Looks like a good choice for this. Cheers, Doug

    Silvio V 1.0 on Air

Very interesting arrangement... I have one concern, and I can't quite evaluate it with your photos. You have increased the amount of flex on the titanium spring. In this case, it is critical that the spring is not presented with a sharp edge to bend over at either anchor point...
