    Brake adapters

We like to build conversions with wheels not originally intended for the frames - 700c in 26" frames, 26" in 24" frames, etc. The question always comes up - "How do I get the V-brakes to work with the [bigger - smaller] wheels?" Here's a new adapter...

    Conversion Kit FWD bracket concern

Clamp it, it'll be fine I've run the upper plate at much more severe angles than that. There's a tang on the adapter bracket that will keep the clamp from working its way off... Looks fine to me. Cheers, Doug

At last, the first ride on my Silvio 2.0

Length and type of adjustment Hi Ivan, I'm talking about adjusting from my 39.5" x-seam to someone with a 46" x-seam or more. In your arrangement, the effective housing length will still change, because the upper cable stop for the housing is positioned by the upper slider, and the...

chain jumping from small ring to large ring all by itself while climbing up hill

Boom slippage Mountainraine, The only mechanism I can think of that would cause the FD to shift UP is slippage of the front slider tube. In a few cases, we shipped upper slider tubes that were not slotted. These won't tighten properly no matter how hard you pull the slider clamp down...

At last, the first ride on my Silvio 2.0

Slider and FD adjustment When someone finally pries it out of my hands, I'll need to allow other people to demo ride my Silvio (is IS a company car, after all...) My fix for this is to attach a clamp-on cable stop on the front slider section, and run extra FD cable housing so I can fit the...

    Cruzbike Recumbents Vs Other Recumbents

Interesting... In 2002 I bought a Vision R40 OSS that I was quite proud of. In August of 2005 I built my first Cruzbike conversion (the original steel kit shipped out of Australia) on a steel ATB I bought from Toys R Us for $50USD. The conversion weighed just shy of 50lbs, the R40...

    Loaded Silvio 2.0

What is your intended load weight and preferred position? Marshall, I don't think I've seen anyone who's yet tried to load a Silvio 2.0 heavily. Doesn't mean it can't be done; we are collecting information like this to establish design parameters for racks and attachments...

Clamping a Silvio 2.0 into a Repair Stand?

Personally, I Don't recommend clamping to the frame You'll have a hard time clamping to the frame, and it can be damaged by too much clamp pressure. Even the 1.0 model was hard to hold in a conventional workstand clamp, even though it had a hardened section at the bottom to facilitate...

A 1988 Moving Bottom Bracket front Wheel drive

Patents expire after 15 years... ...and John's patents are distinguished by the adjustability feature. Tom Traylor patented the MBB/FWD concept in 1992. Tom and Cruzbike are great friends, and he loves John's designs. Could be that Mr. Stegman never filed a patent. Prior art has to...

    Silvio 2.0 Picture Thread

No extension... Puts the handlebars exactly where I need them to be.

Silvio 2.0 Journey, Build, and Ride Video

Shouldn't have to cut the boom on this design... Looks like mine is sufficiently short as-supplied, and has a good amount of adjustment length remaining... 39.5 - 40" x-seam here.

Can a trainer be used on a Quest?

To use the trainer... You'll need to remove the clickbox and the hub pull rod. This means you can use only one of the IGH gears (I forget what the default gear is, I think it's the lowest ratio). Otherwise it will mount like most bikes. There is no skewer because the Dualdrive hub uses a...

Silvio 2.0 Journey, Build, and Ride Video

+1 on 2 mirrors I use Zefal Spys, also. I usually use 2, but only had one with me at the beach. At one point, the bike path switches sides of the road at a blind curve, and the road is fairly busy. Boy was I missing mirror number 2...

Looking for a hitch-mounted bike carrier

I use this one... ... and it works great. It carries my Cruzbike (any of 'em) and my wife's Vision R40 USS (which she will NOT give up) at the same time. I've been very pleased with this rack. It carries the bikes very securely and breaks down into small enough pieces that I can keep it in...

    Silvio 2.0 at the beach

The Silvio turned out very nicely. The guys at Highway 58 bike shop had all the little parts I needed (and forgot to bring with me). https://www.facebook.com/pages/HWY-58-Bicycles/308102145894914 Took a 10-mile shakedown ride Wednesday and made some handlebar...

IT's 34.9mm... Fairly common size if you purchase a new derailleur, not too common on donor bikes.

    First Impression- not so good

Glad you didn't have worse injuries... Jeez, Eric (I say again)... My advice would be to urge your insurance company and hers to write it all off and start with a fresh frame. If the frame is bent/impacted at all it is likely to never be the same as it was. We've never actually put a...

    First Impression- not so good

Jeez, Eric! Even I don't go to those lengths to demonstrate the robustness of our products... But seriously, that was a scary story, and I'm glad you're okay. You have built a big role for yourself around here. But principally, I'm glad you're okay. Cheers, Doug

    Softrider brakes

For wheels larger than 26" You can use road calipers on the fork and swing arm. You'll need appropriate short-pull brake levers. This should work for 700c and 29r wheels, as well as older 27" and 27 1/4" wheels.
