Questions about upgrading S30 to disc brakes

Finally got the new wheels and brakes. Went with 32-spoke front/28 rear, HY/RD calipers, 160 mm front rotor/140 rear, Conti GP5000 28mm tires. So far, so good.

Battle of the Brands - Bike Sebring 2020

I got a Battle of the Brands email from Bacchetta a couple of days ago -- I'm on their mailing list because I bought a handlebar for my Q -- saying, in part: SEEKING MORE BACCHETTA RIDERS! SIGN UP EXTENDED UNTIL FEBRUARY 1st! 45 riders have signed up but CRUZBIKE has more!

    Dynamic Boom Question...

There are old threads about the "energy-sucking handlebar-on-a-stick" :p where this is discussed. You might be interested in the "Emeljay mod". I'm linking you to a particular post, but there's a whole thread full of details.

Help with sliding down & forward on S40!

THOR is a very small company. Grzegorz may not be able to produce seats in the required number and variety, within the required time frame, while maintaining quality.

Questions about upgrading S30 to disc brakes

No worries, that isn't in the plan. LOL. The Ailerons have the 20mm ID and are tubeless-ready. So we're good there. I may go that route. Thanks, all!

Questions about upgrading S30 to disc brakes

I'm looking to put disc brakes on my S30v2 over the winter. I have SRAM Rival brifters. I'm considering the TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes, would also look at the HY/RD. This is going to mean replacing my wheels, of course. I talked with someone at the CB Ride Retreat who was using Velocity...

    S1 instruction manual

I do have them. 530 mm, according to the fine print on the left bar end. The drop looks deeper than 93 mm, though, based on Slim's diagrams above. Maybe they're not the II version? Would still be happy to part with them, though.

    S1 instruction manual

I believe I still have the Origin 8 Gary II bars that came on the S1.5 I bought from @ReklinedRider. I'll look through my spare parts box tonight. Would be happy to work something out with @ChaleJake if she's interested.

How do I remove Shimano cassette pins? Help!

Donuts are good. When I was putting my S30 together, I was having fits getting the front derailleur right. I offered to bring the LBS mechanic donuts and coffee one Saturday morning, before the shop got busy, if he would let me ask questions and watch him adjust both derailleurs. Worked out well.

    Adding Patterson Transmission to Q45?

Before you give up on this, check with Sam Patterson (if Robert didn't already). He put one of his cranksets on an older Hase Kettwiesel for me several years ago. The email I have from 2015 is samhpatterson at yahoo dot com.

    Rotor Q-ring advice

Spending most of the 2019 Ride Retreat in the small ring on those Kentucky hills finally convinced me to get a 36T QXL. It's a lot smoother feel, more like the 50T. I took it for a test ride on a course where my typical cadence is 80-82, stayed on the 36T ring most of the ride, and came back...

    S30 for sale < 200 miles

This is the late-model S30, with the unsuspended fork. The seat angle is 33 degrees, rather than the 28 of the suspended S30. I have one. I recommend it.

Q45 + Thor Easy Seat = more upright seat angle?

I ride an older Q. I have the seat at 45 degrees. I don't think I'd want it any more upright. I can turn my head easily to check traffic from the side, and navigate in fairly tight spaces. Have you tried adjusting your Grasshopper's seat to its most upright setting and riding it like that for a...

Cruzbike Ride Retreat 2019- in Kentucky!

@paco1961 provided us an excellent description of the Kentucky bourbon-making process after the evening meal Sunday, along with tasting samples of four different kinds of brown water.

Cruzbike Ride Retreat 2019- in Kentucky!

We’re still trying to catch our breath from riding up those Kentucky hills—or, in my case, walking. A good time was had by all. You should be seeing posts soon.

Cruzbike Ride Retreat 2019- in Kentucky!

I'll second that. I want to go to disc brakes on my S30, which will mean new wheels.

Your Opinion Of The Ventist Seat Pad

The stock seat and cushion on my old Q work fine for me on rides up to 20 miles or so. I have a Thor seat and Venti-sit on the S30. I like the ventilation from the Ventisit, as well as its not holding water. If I get caught in the rain, I don't feel like I'm riding on a wet sponge all the way home.

    Wireless Computer

I've been using the Garmin Edge 25 this summer. About the size and appearance of a basic cyclecomputer. Pairs with my phone by Bluetooth, so I can leave the phone in my pocket or bike bag. I like that it will show me who's calling/texting, and the first few words of a text--it doesn't let me...

My First Trail Ride (an out of parking lot experience)

That helped me when I was learning to ride. I'd go out for just 10-15 minutes, down to the parking lot to do a few drills, or around the block a couple of times. :p Try singing, or whistling, or counting out loud, while you're working on straight-line riding on the trail. It distracts the mind...

    Q559 tire sizing question

Probably not, since it's only about 2/3 lb. lighter. Getting the slop/bounce out is what makes the difference, IMO. When I reworked my Q, I started by replacing the rear spring shock with a low-end air shock* from the same manufacturer. Not only did the Q take bumps better, I became aware of...
