700 miles on my new Silvio and loving it!

Crank Bros. Quattros. I don't think they make them anymore, though. I sure do like them because they work with road shoes, mountain shoes, even my SPD sandals. Mark

700 miles on my new Silvio and loving it!

I didn't care for Speedplays, either. That big, metal plate that bolts on bottom of your shoe was slippery, to me. I never got confidence in my stops. Love them on a road bike, but sure didn't care for them on any of my bents. Mark

I just got beat up on the internet.

Assuming the rims are capable of handling HP tires... I agree. Mark

    I Love My Bike

There is no one thing, Jon. It's the whole package. It's the ride,it's the position, it's the whole package. I've never ridden a Sofrider or a Freerider, so I cannot compare. The only thing I can say is the Silvio is the bomb, for me. 10,000 miles plus and still excited about the bike says...

    I Love My Bike

I really do. I've been riding my Silvio for a year and a half, now. I'm over 10,000 miles and still just LOVE this bike. Not many things in life keep me fired up this long, but the Silvio is just such a bike. I'm due for tires. I probably need a chain, recabling and all that stuff.. Still...

    AllBlack Rival Silvio

Another thing that helped me was going to 25c tires. I also experimented with running lower pressure in the front tire and higher in the back to compensate. As John says, as you perfect the technique, the wheelspin will get better. I only spin on real steep slopes; in excess of 15% grades and...

How to get a light weight donor.

Hang around cyclists long enough and you learn they all have stashes of parts. ;)

    Cruzbike vs. Linear

+1 on zip tieing the derailleur cable to the fork leg. I think you will discover in short order the Cruzbike eats the Linear's lunch in all regards. I know, it goes against your better judgement that this kit thingy on a cheap bike can outperform a factory built bike. It's a tough thing to...

    700c conversion update

I was wondering what happened to this bike. Looks good, thanks for the update! Mark

How to get a light weight donor.

Yes, I did. I already had a nice Rockshox to use on it and the fork that came on the bike was a 24" (obviously taken from another bike to cobble this one back together) and weighed a metric crapton. Mark

    Riding with the big boys

Yes, they were all DF riders. I get mixed reviews on my ability to give off a draft. I took my share of pulls in the morning, but hung on the back later on when I was spent. There's not too much around here that's truly flat. We had two pretty good climbs going over and the rest was rolling...

    Riding with the big boys

I rode with the big boys again today. At least some of them.. I originally fell in with my usual crowd, but they weren't doing anything that impressed me that much. I started to leave with them, then realized the big boys hadn't left yet. I checked in with them and they were stil himming and...

Installing Triple Crankset/9 Speed Cassette on Sofrider

May need to upgrade front derailleur. Otherwise, sounds like an upgrade right up my sleeve. Triples are way under appreciated, in my opinion. Mark

For fun: those yellow "curve ahead" signs

I've produced skidmarks on downhill curves, but nobody knows since I wash out my own bike shorts! Mark

How to get a light weight donor.

I junked all the original parts. All I used from that bicycle was the frame and rear shock. I think DefJack has a sweetheart of a bike. Weight weenies would say it's still heavy, but who cares? Mark

How to get a light weight donor.

I don't have a Y-26, I have a Pacific brand knock off. It's made from cheaper/heavier grade aluminum than a quality frame and yes, it's a chunky bike. It doesn't ride that way, though, because it has a quality drive train and the power transmission of the kit is really good. I just don't...
