Confirmed: Mark B is an idiot

I'm aleady on that page. I wonder what they would have to have for it? A different insurance company, but a friend of mine got hit by a car years ago. The insurance paid off and replaced his old bike (high end carbon fiber Trek). They never asked for the carcass. He ended up selling off the...

    SOFRIDER DISTANCE TRAINING RIDE

Rick, Loved your ride report. You're going to do fine on your ride. Yes, I think you would have been faster on a Silvio, but you did well! Mark

Confirmed: Mark B is an idiot

You truly are in good hands with Allstate. The car went into the shop last night for repairs, check in hand. The adjuster for the bikes and rack is going to replace my Silvio, no questions asked. She cruised the website and knows how much it is. She asked us basically for the replacement...

    Front shock keeps deflating!

I suspect it has a regular Schrader valve in it. If you have a valve core tool, make sure the core is tight. You should be able to get the tool at any auto parts store. Go ahead and get some new cores, they don't last forever. OTOH, I might be talking completely from my keester, too. Mark

    future builder questions

If I were shopping for a donor bike, I would look for something that sported at least a nine speed rear and triple front. I'd look for a component group that was (Shimano) 105, or better. Likely, you will find a bike that has a mixture of components and the critical thing you want to concern...

    future builder questions

Hi David and welcome! Building the Silvio is pretty straight forward once you get the frame assembled. There are a ton of resources available; not just here with people that have built (and wrecked  ) their bikes, but elsewhere on the Internet. Bike parts are bike parts. The biggest...

    control at higher speeds

Practice, practice, practice. Don't try to go faster than you feel safe, but there is no substitution for time in the saddle. Mark

Confirmed: Mark B is an idiot

I know, I know and I'm usually the worst one demanding photos. I took pictures of the car and the rack. I went out last night to take pics of the bikes and that's when I really got to looking at them closer. I don't really want to mess with them too much until the adjuster has a look, so bear...

Confirmed: Mark B is an idiot

Well, I went out and surveyed the damage a little closer. Both of the fork fixtures broke, that's the reason my wife's bike fell completely off the car. But, get this.... For the life of me, I cannot find a single dent in any tube. I found one scratch in the top tube and some scuffs on the...

Confirmed: Mark B is an idiot

After careful deliberation, I can safely say and accept the fact that I am an idiot. Many have suspected as much. I have been holding out hope that the "Hooked on Phonics" and "Common Sense and You" correspondence courses would eventually kick in. Alas, it's time to admit the fact that I am a...

    derailleur selection

I think that's correct. My Santana tandem has Ultegra brifters and a mountain bike rear derailleur. Mark

xseams and chain hitting derailler cage

I would like to point out that I called out the problem without benifit of said pictures... :D    Of course, I also recognized the symptoms from having done the same thing myself. Pics really do help, though! Mark

xseams and chain hitting derailler cage

That was my question that obviously wasn't so stupid. I got a hunch your problem is solved. Don't feel bad; I did the same thing. Mark

xseams and chain hitting derailler cage

I'll be interested to read your thoughts.... Before I bought my Silvio, all I had to compare was my conversion to my Strada. For me, to buy a Silvio meant the Strada would have to go. After riding the conversion for only a week, I went back to the Strada. I rode it once and the answer became...

    Anatomy of a donor bike

My dept. store bike is both boon and bust. On one hand, it was fun to build, rides OK and gets lots of looks. On the other hand, it weighs a ton and while it doesn't ride heavy, it is. I'm actually OK with it because I use it like my weight trainer for when I ride the Silvio on the weekends...

xseams and chain hitting derailler cage

This is probably a silly question, but are you sure you are using the correct set of derailleur mounting holes? You should be using the "southern-most" holes; the ones closest to the center of the TFT. Mark

    Front brake / suspension problem

The thing I found that worked for me was a rubber sewer pipe coupler bought at Home Depot. It's very thick rubber, yet cuts easily with a sharp utility knife. I cut chunks of it for the fork legs and also used it to make a shim for the front of my seat. Mark
