    Commute to work

I wanted to tell you all about my commute yesterday. I didn't think it would be anything special. In fact, I had a real hard time prying myself out of bed. But, I managed to get up, eat some breakfast and get myself together for the ride. The sun is rising earlier, now. It's almost a waste...

    Is Wal-Mart a dirty word?

Pretty cool description of trikes; they are fun like that. I would not have considered the obstacle avoidance issue, either. I bet rumble strips would be real fun in that regard. Mark

    Is Wal-Mart a dirty word?

And that's the thing. Assuming your WM bike is a good donor to start with, you have to realize it's going to be out of commission for commuting duty during the build and while you learn to ride it. That's something to consider. I think trikes are cool. I ricky-raced around the parking lot on...

    Is Wal-Mart a dirty word?

My Cruzbikes are not my first recumbent, nor my first adult bicycle. Prior to building my conversion, I had ridden a Vision R42 and a Bachetta Strada. I was so enthralled with the FWD and so impressed with the conversion on a cheap mtb that I popped for a Silvio. I currently have 9 road worth...

    Is Wal-Mart a dirty word?

I agree with most of what you said, but am calling you out on this statement. In fact, I will boldly call out "BS!" One of the most comfortable saddles made is the Brooks B-17, which is not wide, nor soft, nor sprung. if you don't believe me, please reference anybody that has done any loong...

    Is Wal-Mart a dirty word?

I have to agree with Kamatu that building the bike has been an absolute blast and I've taken a certain amount of joy in riding the bike that I built from the ground up. I had built many bikes from just a frameset for my kids, but this was the first time for myself. And what an adventure it...

    Riding with racers

By my calculations, that's about 130 miles... That sounds like fun! Certainly, you want to build up your base miles and see to it you're getting in roughly that mileage per week. If you can do the mileage in a week's time, you can do it in one day. That's the accepted rule of thumb and I've...

    Is Wal-Mart a dirty word?

I thought more about your post on my own commute to work and decided I wanted to add more. Regarding your WM special; There is a tremendous difference between a department store bike and a bike shop bike. To put things in perspective; It is a very easy thing to pay more for a good quality rear...

    Riding with racers

That's way too complicated. Just jump in with both feet! Mark

    sofrider to silvio, worth it?

Depends on the component group, the wheels, etc. Mine goes 28# because I have pretty heavy wheels for a pretty heavy guy. Mark

It's too late. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. :D Mark

    Is Wal-Mart a dirty word?

Nightturkey, First of all, congratulations for taking the step and riding your bike to work! That is huge and especially for somebody that was not an avid cyclist to begin with. My hat is off to you. I'm especially impressed that you accomplished this on a WM special that probably weighs...

    The Cruzbike Body

That would be my guess, as well. In fact, during regular cruising mode, there is very little input needed. I've started to notice now that sometimes, I input too much, which indicates to me my legs are getting it dialed in. I've started to play around with hands free riding and while I can...

    Keeps your energy level up!

I agree with Harold that these energy gels are very helpful when you have depleted your stores. I disagree with the way they are marketed/used as an everyday riding aid. There is no real substitution for proper nutrition and hydration. Everything else is just a band-aid. BUT.... That being...

    Front fairing

IMHO, all you would really need would be a bubble fairing that would eliminate the air resistance on your feet and lower torso. The upper body is so reclined, I doubt you get enough benifit to warrant packing it around. Mark

    The Cruzbike Body

You don't feel it? On hard climbing rides, I can really feel it in the biceps and shoulders. It's a matter of countering the effects of pedal steer. Mark

    The Cruzbike Body

I disagree. I think you would get a much better workout in predator infested waters. Mark

    Keeps your energy level up!

I believe energy gels and the like are great products for their intended purpose. I think a lot of people get to thinking they cannot ride without them. I see people all the time downing these gels like there's no tomorrow. I'd rather eat something. But, when it comes to endurance events...
