The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

Funny I never really thought about it in this context myself until you asked that. (Odd) But Wheels are a different animal; they are radial, not lateral; they have load bearing spokes; and they are highly scrutinized from a design side. They were a lot harder to perfect but now they are...

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

When I did the diary I weighed most of the parts out of curiosity. Everything from this end users' perspective is pretty optimal but I had a small list where you can shave weight. For cross references a $2.5k mountain bike carbon frame with no fork, post, handle bars, etc. is about 5lbs and...

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

Actually I'm a pretty easy going guy. I assume that no one set out to build a fork that was going to fail and try to take me out. As an owner of a business I understand when people seek to profit from back luck. In the end I was approached by several people who thought I'd make a lot of money...

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

That would be NDA..... Two years later I was healthy enough to ride a trike the rest is history. The long version is over on my "information tab" http://cruzbike.com/forum/members/ratz.4093/ bad ride; good race; but after they are 4-5 years old you gotta wonder what you are riding especially...

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

The only thing I hit was the wind cresting a hill at about 28mph and accelerating. The entire bike was inspected no evidence that I hit anything, I gave it back to the manufacturing so they could study it and learn from it. It was 6 years old at that time (2004 bike, 2010 crash). All I remember...

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

For the newer generation of forum members that haven't seen these before. If you ride something carbon; inspect your frame 2-3x as often as you think you should. Doesn't mean other materials don't fail but Carbon tends to be catastrophic. I'll spare you my x-rays. Below is what the police...

    Silvio ready to roll

Silvio and Vendetta's will not work with a Square Taper BB. He should have been able to tell that just by looking at it. Probably just didn't look closely. You be far better off just getting the APEX cranks from BikeSmith; they will work fine with your existing BB, that will save you time a...

ISO Dual Drive long handlebar grip

Get two of these; they have bolts that lock them to the bars. Very nice. Basically the same grips SRAM ships with the XX series high end shifters. http://www.outsideoutfitters.com/p-35779-sram-locking-dh-silicone-grip-set.aspx https://www.amazon.com/SRAM-Silicone-Locking-Double-Clamps/dp/B00EPGT3K8

    S30 Boom Adjustment

You play with (3) to get your initial arm length comfortable; then you see if your legs hit the handle bars or not. If they hit; move the entire boom in the the slider clamp (3) to see if the leg interfereance goes a way forwards or backwards; That gives you an idea of how much to compensate...

Oh that's almost a criminal failure around here. Oh Charles!!!!

    SRAM brifters, rear D, etc...

Good post those are the terms I couldn't remember last night, too tired, I knew I was forgetting a key point. The heart of the matter is cable pull. Exact Actuation (Road 10 & 11sp, Mtn 10sp) is 3.1mm X Actuation (Mtn 11sp) is 3.48mm So there is NO cross compatibility. The Rival 22 won't...

    SRAM brifters, rear D, etc...

Shimano is a mixed bag. All the 11sp road stuff maxes out at 32T for the GS style rear derailleurs. You best bet with Shimano and low gears; is some of the older 10 speed stuff with a MTB rear derailleur and a cable pull adapter from Jtekengineering. Blah hate Shimano's web site. This is about...

    Robert's V20 build

Or leave it where it is; and put a hold in the frame there in the center and a small cable stop mount inside the frame; then center pull TT brakes could be used very efficiently.

The Road to 500 miles in 24hrs

I don't' know that's one of those things when you hit it channel surfing has a high "stick" value. My guess is that most of us just don't know when and where it's broadcast so we only luck into it.

The Road to 500 miles in 24hrs

There's this big boring bike race with old slow road bikes coming up; that's at least 2-3 hours of something watch on the trainer. Heal fast

    SRAM brifters, rear D, etc...

I just went through all of this myself about 2 weeks ago building the BOM for my son's new gravel grinder; I came really close to ordering the wrong stuff until I doubled back and checked the manuals in depth and called my SRAM TechSupport contact. In short don't use a 1x rear derailleur; it...

Boom ... was that an S30 that just passed you?

The old website listed it the S30 with shock as 22.6 in The current specs is 21.5in. I assume that's the seat pan without the the cushhions. So the old height with the cushions was 24.1in; and the new is 23" So 1 inch lower.
